I'm not seeing any online servers what so ever - Is the game completely dead online now?

Windows Live informs me that a player has signed in whenever I first sign on. Just want to make sure GG didn't sell me a used key.

I can start my own online game.
The second one has the same multi but better, and neither was a huge hit on the PC, so it makes sense for it to be dead.
the multiplayer of the first K&L game was basically DOA. first, because the game was never a hit (it did get some decent scores and i did like it a lot, though), and second, because back then GfWL was basically a paid service, same as Xbox Live. if you wanted to have the full experience, you had to pay for Gold membership, and nobody on the PC was stupid enough to do that.

by the time Microsoft came to their senses and made GfWL entirely free to use, it was too late for early GfWL games like K&L. they were already deserted.

and then came K&L2 which, although not the better game overall, did have improved multiplayer, and it was SteamWorks, too, so it was much more popular online.

you might have better luck with K&L2 multiplayer, but i wouldn't know since i've only played it briefly and not in a long time.

It definitely sucks how so many multiplayer sections of games are dead. Makes me think that a game should either be one or the other these days. Can't think of any recent game that is very successful in both spheres.

Except maybe Call of Duty, but that's become more of a MP game anyway
I never saw any multiplayer games, even shortly after the game that came out. It's a shame too, because out of all the things that reviewers liked about the game, the multiplayer seemed to be the big one. But I never got to try it.

I also never got why people thought that the cover system was broken. Made sense to me. If the side of the pillar is chipped off by a bullet, that's slightly more room for you to get hit. That and, even when you were in cover, it never really felt like you were magically safe from all bullets on that side. There was always room to get hit. Especially hiding behind cars.

I really liked the single-player portion and never played the second. Hated the end though. The choice was pretty unbearable. Ended up going back to get the second ending and never really thought I made the right choice either way. Regarding that, shame they made a sequel, considering it made no sense for the portion of people that got...the other ending.
I was lucky because I did grab a few online rounds to begin with when I first bought the game back in 2007, but online was dead within a couple of months. But then, this applies to the vast majority of PC games.

A shame, because the multiplayer was actually fairly good fun.
