nmillar: I think that's a fairly safe bet. The second site has a nice little iPhone app too!

bansama: Yup. Thanks for your help.
Hmm, this is confusing. The one above is Region B, but this one is Region A?

=S I might just opt for the DVD version then (assuming there is one, haven't checked yet).

I guess I should also try and get a Blu Ray drive for the PC but I want an external one and those aren't currently at a viable price point here. But at least if I do that, there should be a program somewhere out there to force region free.

Looking at the rest of the catalog from Universal, you're pretty much assuredly getting region free discs.

Also, the US and Japan are the same region, so you could technically just order from amazon.com, or .ca and not worry about anything like that.

Yeah, but funnily enough, it's cheaper to order from Amazon UK than from Amazon US. Which is why I was asking about UK versions. But I'll bear that in mind as a last resort sorta thing.

Yeah, I ordered a bunch of boxed sets from UK for less than the cost of a single one locally. It was awesome.

Yeah, you'll probably want to have a look at the AV forums.

I do that all the time. Saves me several hundred dollars each time I do.

Never tried it but might be a place to start, about mid-way down . . .=)

bansama: Anyone know if the PS3 can play import Blu Rays? In my case a Japanese PS3 with Hi-def TV set up, and UK Blu Rays.

I'm fairly interested in picking up several Blu ray sets not available here but have no idea if I'd be able to play them. Amazon still lists Blu Ray regions as if they were selling DVDs, so that's useless to go by for determining if a specific disc is region locked.

So any ideas on how I could check, without potentially wasting money on a disc I can't use?
If you're not using SlySoft's amazing software you should be. There's going to be titles you love so much you don't want to do this with, but 90% of stuff probably won't matter if you are really honest about it. Since your PS3 supports UPnP and DLNA you should be able to stream anything from a proper computer BluRay drive if you need.

I know this doesn't exactly address your question, but Slysoft software has made my life easier by letting me actually enjoy DVDs again with almost no fuss.

Yep, AnyDVD HD is fantastic. Would never not use it now that I know it eliminates the problems I have with Blu-rays and DVDs.
