*Not sure where to ask this so sorry if i'm in the wrong section.*

So, in the last sales i've bouth Mob Rule and only decided to play it recently (already outside the 30 days for refunds, not that it matters since it was cheap and i don't mind considering what gog already gave me for free).

Now, the problem is that the mouse movement is WAY too high and the game becomes unplayable so i've checked the forums and i'm not the only one.
I'm not going to quote the conversation between me and support since i'm not sure if it's ok so i'll just give the short version:

- Contacted the support regarding this problem mentioning that i already did what is said on the thread and that it doesn't work (compatibility mode and crack);

- Support responds and says for me to do what is said there (the thread that i mentioned), even gives me the MR.exe file to download (i'm pretty sure it's the same crack file mentioned in that thread);

- I respond saying that the compatibility mode only works for the inicial seconds and the problem returns, as for the exe file, it asks for me to put the Street Wars on the drive;

- Support tells me that the exe file should work, to remove any compatibility mode, start as admin, install again, etc.

Now, i've been busy so i didn't do anything until now where i've tried again to do what he said and, again, it didn't work. My question is, if the exe file has a picture of ST (Street Wars, the european version of the game) will it ever work on a different version (Mob Rule, the version that is sold by gog)?
Like i said, i don't really mind and i was already expecting some kind of problem (old games...) but i'm just curious about this, i'm not an expert but my gut tells me that it will never work, there's some kind of difference in the registry of the game (or something like that).

PS - Not sure if it's legal talk about this (cracks) but since i actually bought the game, i think it's... ok? Please don't ban me GoG Overlords...
So now it's new install, Run as administrator and Compatibility Windows 95?

No, it didn't work and the support said "The cd request should not happen when launching from MR.2.exe, please make sure that you didn't select any compatibility options on that file.", besides, my question is if a File that's actually SW.exe that was changed (only the name) to MR.2.exe will ever work on the original exe file (MR.exe).

Edit: To be clear, the final step was to make a clean install, replace the exe file (crack?), don't have any compatibility mode and run as admin.

I always get the message that i need to put the Street Wars CD on the drive.

Somehow this seems similar to Dark Reign...

For me Dark Reign complains about having to put the CD into the drive, naturally i don't have a CD. But if i click okay or cancel, then when the game comes up it didn't work at all and couldn't find anything..

However when i ignored the box (leaving it open) and went to the game, all the content was there and it worked...

How very strange...
In my case, the screen goes black and then (1~2 seconds) returns to the desktop with the message that i've said.

Screenshot
For Dark Reign it popped up the cd inserting error and then started the game a few seconds later...

Unfortunately i don't have that game so i can't offer much for advice... Well there are a few ideas coming to mind.

You might be able to find an ISO that's stripped down to maybe a meg, it says it has the contents of the whole game but it's whole purpose is to bypass the cd checking. If there's one for the game, download it and mount it, either with a simple tool like imdisk, or if it is more anal about it, perhaps PowerISO, Alcohol52/alcohol120, or Daemon tools. Worst case you could burn it to an actual disk if you have a drive to put it in...

... You said the screen went black? I wonder if the video resolution options are set wrong, but if it's a new clean install then it should be something that's compatible... hmmm.... lots of random things that could be wrong...

Uhm, i've google that game (Dark Reign) and i don't think it's the same situation, in your case it's a problem where it ask for the cd and you can ignore it, in my case, i'm using a crack from Street Wars (europe) on Mob Rules (US) therefore this thread, is it possible to use a crack from a different version?

Maybe.

By Maybe i mean ONLY if the translations are part of an external data file rather than being built into the exe. However that would probably be resolvable by the crack saying it works on xx version that has a checksum of xx. But unless it's an exact match for the exe file, i'm going to say no...

Patches work 1 of 2 ways usually. They either do blind bulk replacement of sections they know they need to replace, or they scan for specific patterns and replace them. If all the blocks to replace aren't done, the crack/patch fails and is likely unsafe. (Thankfully the actual check and instructions that need changing are probably maybe 4 bytes...)

As recommended earlier, find a stripped ISO that satisfies it's tests. Beyond that i'm not sure what to recommend.
Nah, thanks for the sugestion anyway, like i said at this point i really don't care, i was just curious why the support was insisting in that solution when in my mind it didn't made sense.
