MaridAudran: When I was a young teenager with infinite patience for difficult video games, I think I did beat Mike Tyson once.

On subsequent nostalgia-themed ROM emulation attempts I think beating Super Macho Man was good enough for me. Sometimes even Mr. Sandman, who is one brutal bastard.

The 8-bit NES Punch-Out remains quite a bit harder than its sequel, the SNES 16-bit Super Punch Out. Once you memorize the fighting habits of the circuit boxers in SPO beating them becomes a routine matter, even the boss "Bruiser" brothers (Bald Bull and Mr. Sandman are mediocre shadows of their former dominating selves). Graphically and gameplay wise it's a superior game, but the original Punch-Out still tests my nerves and twitch-gaming reflexes like little else.

Antimateria: you know in ps2 was contra shattered soldier. That was great. Well, I played with my brother.. He died all the time. It wasn't easy, good game.

And contra is probotector. 5 levels. All so hard that I could puke and I will.. But still it was good.
Additional memory? I knew that there is always a catch. =)
Hmmmm. I didn't really understand anything you just said, but I'll take your word for it.

I think I dimly remember playing some Contra game on SNES ages ago. It was a side-scrolling shoot 'em up/platformer, a popular genre back then. I don't think I ever finished it though.
Well then.. Theres some goddamn cords. ^^

Emulate that. It's a great game.

Punch out came out when I was 11 years old. I got it for Christmas that year, and beat it after about a month of trying. After finally figuring out the pattern, I could beat Tyson every time.
Now, my son has it on his Wii (the original NES version on virtual machine), and I can't get past Soda Popinski. Oh to be young again.
it was one of those games where you had fun with discovering new stuff.
At first i had a real hard time but then found out you could...dodge *-*
so that made things a lot easier pushing down twice.

even now i can still hear the sounds that go with the moves and its been almost 3 decades ago :)

KOCollins: Years ago, when I was younger and had the reflexes of a ninja I whooped up on Mike Tyson...When I tried years later..not so much...But have no fear, little mac can!
Funny you mention this. I am in my early thirties and don't feel it at all... except when it comes to video games. Games like this and Mega Man 2 I use to complete in one sitting on a daily basis (I lived in a boring town!). Years go by and I pick the games up again and I can't even get halfway through it even with the ability to quick save! I fear I will soon turn into a casual gamer! :o

My god, when I turn to thirty I will still playing games. My 30 is only 1 year and couple months away. Do I suddenly start to like Civilization also? Horrible future awaits me.
i used to play punchout with a friend, when we were about 12-14. i think he rented it from a videostore back then.
we had to use a walkthrough though and even when you know the moves it was still hard.
we switched turns sometimes i defeated some the other time he defeated some.

i replayed it later through animal crossing . which was fun but couldnt be bothered to finish it. punchout for the wii has the same type of difficulty as the original.

as for having less reflexes when you get older. i dunno , when i was little i had a very hard time with gremlins for the nes. then recently i finished the thing in 4 hours. (and yes i am 31 since yday, so there is '"hope')

You're actually right! I only met my best friend (alcohol!) when I was going to school and working in two different cities then the one I live in. :)

I did get back into some point and click adventure games (finally finished The Longest Journey this year!) and recently purchased The Tiny Bang Story. :) Civilization though still doesn't click for me. It does seem pretty amazing but I can't even get through the tutorial. :(

I bought those a while back, those longest journeys, completed in the past but it's time to play those again. Adventures, that's pretty much where I started PC-gaming and those are really never out of style in my books.
I am trying to try new things/games (I even accidentally thought about getting a life but that's a mouthful), I already bought Disciples 2 and Wings of prey. Well, they were cheap then and wings of prey is quite good.
