Freddo: Is it backwards compatible with the PSP, so if you bought PSP games on PSN you can download them and play it on the NGP?

pawelgr5: Yes, that is why I am very happy that most of my games are from PSN and not UMD disk versions :D
Sources for this? I have not seen it mentioned anywhere.

That would make me happy, as there are a couple of PSP games I'd like to play, if I end up getting this device.

Seems like it might be crazy expensive, though.

cogadh: Games for the PSP2 are going to be sold on what looks like a SD card:
http://dvice.com/archives/2011/01/boom-everything.php
Carts are better than UMD's, but I'd still prefer SD cards for media storage (Movies and Music). I haven't been able to locate anything about internal storage. Any word yet on it?
Some game footage

Also some more awful music but its not quite as speaker rippingly loud as the crap in the mystery ad.

Having played a few games on my win7 phone that use the accelerometer for motion control, I can say I'm really not a fan of it so I doubt I'd end up getting wipeout since the video implies thats how its controlled

here you go:

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/01/27/next-generation-portable-ngp-all-the-early-details/

the part that interests you is something like:

* NGP will be able to play PSP titles, minis, PS one classics and video from the PlayStation Store, as well as all games newly released via PlayStation Suite.

This functionality was revealed a lot earlier than this post on PS blog (however I read about it on Polish web site so there was no point pasting URL here) :)

DarthKaal: Like pretty much every Sony Playstation ads...
They really should change their advertising department, when you see ads made for the PS2, PS3 and PSP - and now this - I seriously think that it give them anything but credit.
That's not true though, the Kevin Butler commercials are great. Why they don't just use him for their first PSP2 commerical is beyond me. Maybe he gets paid exclusively to do PS3 or something.
Totally not portable.
yeah, totally crap - if this should be a portable device - same goes for n3ds..

just reed it on the edge videogame magazin: the n3ds runs 3h in 3d with full bright (what i suppose you need in the 3d mode), 5 hours with brightness reduced to maximum and + 25% if you play in 2d.. so i have 4-6 hours in 2d and 3-4 hours in 3d.. i bet it is more like 2-3 hours for real..

http://www.next-gen.biz/news/nintendo-explains-3ds-battery-life

Same goes for the ngp as well. if you need to reload after three hours the device is not really portable, only inside your house, and there you better run around with the loading cables attached as well. "portable like a past generation notetbook..*
as soon as you get immersed to red light blinks.. and i dare you if you dont load your batteries every day..

Does Someone knows a thing about the quality of the display? will it be possible this time to play "outside"?

and they grow bulkier and bulkier - and from more to most expensive.

I just canceled my preoder of the n3ds as i reed about the batterie life..

And, seeing this in size and prize, i guess my 10" netbook is my portable gaming device - it features 11 hours of gameplay and can be used outside with a bright antiglare display - it also has a touchpad :) maybe not the same, but these portable gaming devices.. seem to be victims of their time.. a pitty, i liked the 3d effect at n3ds :) - but now i miss my old nds, which i sold a year ago..

so, you will be probably able to play ps3 games on the ngp - *lol, what a crazy world*

+ you let the wlan on on these handhelds, so they play for themselfs against others pedestrians, and they can download conten, like movie trailers and game demos: you dont need even to play to get an empty batterie within 2-3 days *g*

but yes, off course, first thing to do would be to deactivate wlan anyway.

:) hehe

Shuangli: <snip>
If they're really looking at only 3-4 hours battery with no removal of said battery... the OpenPandora is looking more and more like the perfect portable gaming system. That or maybe the Razr concept thing they had at CES depending on it's battery life.

Well, I must admit this is pretty funny, didn't know those commercials. Surely cause I've stopped watching TV and commercials a long time ago. Anyway.
Did anyone else lol when they heard it'd use cartridges?

It's the final acknowledgement from Sony that UMDs weren't a great idea (as if the PSP Go wasn't admission enough).
