King's Bounty Series, Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg Series, Silent Storm S2, and other wargames 70% off!

War is, undeniably, a part of human nature. Or maybe even nature in general. Everywhere you look wars are being waged. Even in your own backyard you'll find ant colonies fighting each other in endless struggle for resources and living space. According to many theories war is the single most progressive force in human history. Whether we like it or not, the root of most technological, and even social advancement lie in the race for military strength. There is no wonder war fascinates us and holds a prominent place in our imagination. And--of course--all of that interest we take in it, is being expressed via computer games. Today, we invite you to join us for a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/1c_gsc_nival_1c_online_weekend_promo_310114]Wargaming Weekend with 18 excellent strategy and tactics titles offered whole 70% off. Let's take a brief look at some of the games, shall we?

King's Bounty: The Legend and its continuation, King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY play a lot like a Heroes of Might & Magic game. But simply calling them clones would be unjust. Saying that they're "genetically enhanced clone"--as one of our users called it--would be much more fair. The gameplay is full of unique ideas and the high-fantasy setting of the game has a very distinctive feel to it. With many, many hours of gameplay, innumerable tasks to complete, giant world to explore, and a great variety of enemies to defeat, those gems of a strategic-RPG truly deserves your attention. Yours for $2.99 and $5.99 respectively.

Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology are both extensive, realistic, and multifaceted strategy gems. Don't miss the opportunity to get yourself hours upon hours of excellent and challenging strategic gameplay that will test your skills as a military commander. Both games excel in portraying the reality of the World War II campaigns down to detailed unit specifics and equipment. You'll get a chance to recreate the most important battles that served as turning points of mankind's most terrifying conflict up to date. Once you finish all the engaging single-player scenarios, you can challenge your friends online or use the provided map editor to create your very own campaigns. They can be a part of your collection for only $2.99 each!

That's only a small part of our Wargaming Weekend promo. Head out to the promo page to be fully briefed on our offer and start planning the tactics on your approach. The offer lasts until Tuesday, February 4, at 4:59AM GMT. Over and out!
Hello!

I just bought and installed Etherlords 2 (russian version). I found out in the forum how to get pass the "blanck set up screen" ,
but now i have a huge problem: on the menu screen, i can't read anything, the text doesn't appear, all i see are question marks. I have already played other games in russian, that worked perfectly well.

Anyone had this problem with Etherlords 2? What sould I do?

Maybe I'm just saying nonsense, but perhaps (for this game) your OS needs the russian characters installed?
I'm used to get that with jap games..

Question: how does one survive Cossacks? That, American Conquest and Heroes of Annihilated Empires I haven't played before. I've never had HoAE work on a computer before and I don't believe the GOG version is Windows 8 compatible.

The Heroes of an Annihilated Empire game card states it is Windows 8 compatible. GOG offers a 30 day guarantee it should work or money back.

Maybe they changed it, I last tried it like 6 months ago.

CarrionCrow: Yes, there is a problem, given your previous statements. You don't have all the games yet! ;)

Ophelium: While I can't argue with that logic, there are some games on here that I would never play and some that are out of my price range :P
For me, there are a few that it's going to almost physically hurt to buy. Ones where my hand starts shaking and I'm asking myself why the hell I'm thinking of doing something that stupid. Guess when the time comes, I'll see whether good taste or compulsion to collect wins out.
I've just started playing Space Rangers 2 Reboot and am wondering if Star Wolves is anything like it?

Melhelix: Thanks for that! I was a bit on the fence, but at a buck seventy-nine sounds like it is worth a shot.
YW, yup, really can't go wrong at all for that price, if you're even remotely interested in space RTS's

Also, it's not as active as it used to be, but there is a LOT of great info on the SW Forum, and some pretty neat fan mods as well.

JaqFrost: Not too late at all. Thank you! =) I've waited 'til today to nail down my purchases because I can't decide whether I should get GOG copies of any of the UFOs. I have them through a Groupees bundle, but in between the uncertainty of their availability and the poor download speed... The latter being the reason why I haven't played any of them yet. =/
I have the UFO games from here as well, but haven't had the chance to play them yet. The one I did load up (can't remember which one atm, wouldn't play nice with my graphics card, so I have little to add about them, but they look interesting :)

Well, a little I suppose. You dock/converse with stations, purchase, change out systems, explore, fight, ect.; but in SW games, you are actually directing and coordinating your team, much like the battles in Homeworld. Where as, I would sort of consider Space Rangers a bit more like a "poor man's" X-series game to an extent. I would say though, if you like SR, you'd probably enjoy SW as well

Hopefully GOG will continue to add the kinds of games that GOGers personally want, so that no one will ever have to go through that. With over 90 games still on my wishlist, it *should* be a while before I get there. Hopefully it will be the same for the two of you (Ophelium - need to work on adding some padding to that wishlist there for just this reason, along with so I will have some company with a GOGer that has both an unwieldy collection and an unwieldy wishlist :-) ).

I think UFO Aftermath is set to a certain resolution (so it's more appropriate to play on a smaller screen) and Aftershock needs a fan patch for higher resolutions.

This has been my favorite sale in a long time. I didn't get anything at Xmas and I missed out on the one game I wanted in the Time Machine Sale, so this one was awesome for me. Super excited about playing Silent Storm. =D
Hmmmmm Silent Storm 2, UFO AfterShock,Heroes of Annihilated Empire,Star Wolves........any chance GOG will put up some form of gameplay videos of games on gamecards one day?. Had to dig around youtube.......

This posts comes a tad late for you, but I hope it helps.

Space Rangers 2 is strictly 2 dimensional. Because of this it looks like you fight on a flat plane. However, it boasts a RTS mode when you invade planets, whereas Star Wolves resembles a small-scale version of Homeworld where you control a small group of ships in a third person perspective (kinda 3D) setting.

Star Wolves, thus, has less types of gameplay involved. The 'primary' form of gameplay, however, is somewhat similar with Space Rangers being turn-based and thus having 'delays' in what one's ship will do when ordered to move/attack while Star Wolves, being genuinely real-time, does not have said delays, and you can control a flotilla of ships.

Therefore, I'd recommend you buy it. For less than $2 Star Wolves is a steal.

Oh, no no no. I've browsed through the entire catalog and I'm happy to be down to six items. I don't add everything I have a passing interest in on my wishlist. I fill it and take stuff off constantly. A lot of what I've picked up weren't on my wishlist to begin with. If GOG fulfills the wishes I've made and voted on, then I might be up to 90 items, but I doubt it'll ever get that bad. Originally, I was just here for Duke Nukem 3D. Now I'm playing more FPS, PnC and TBS games than I ever thought I would. I used to hate all those. I'm still not gung-ho about PnCs (takes a bit of convincing to get me to play one) and I definitely don't play RTS games. Wow, I'm derailing this topic. Uh...King's Bounty games...buy them!
Purchased both Etherlords games
Any Blitzkrieg veterans out there?

Just bought Blitzkrieg 1 and was wondering whether to get Blitzkrieg 2 as well.

Blitzkrieg 2 seems to get some flak for being the less cerebral title so I'd like to know if that is just the 'sequel syndrome' and it's actually a good game where strategy matters or if Blitzkrieg 2 really is more of a brainless reflex-based RTS?

(It's not a question of money as $2.99 is cheap as peanuts but it would be a shame to end up buying something you won't like and then it just sits on your shelf. After all, you can't give away used digital games.)
