So apparently the promo prices for some games expire earlier than Jan 3rd? I'm not extremely upset or anything, but it seems that that could have been communicated a bit better. I was going to put off getting them until after Christmas to make things easier on finances in regards to other Christmas stuff, and I just noticed that a bunch of games are back to full price....

On the one hand, I no longer have to blow $75 on discounted games, but on the other I'd really have liked to pick them up. I'm ambivalent as to how I feel about this, but being informed from the beginning would have been best, and there doesn't appear to be anything about the promo expiring for certain games earlier than others stated on the promotion announcements.

It could have even been cast in a positive light: "Make sure to check back often, as games will cycle in and out of the promotion throughout the Holiday Season!" or something...
Announced in big letters on the side of the promo page...
Yeah, my workflow was basically: get email, say "whoa, awesome!", and hit up gog.com and look at my wishlist to see at a glance which of my wishlisted games were on sale. I guess I should have gone to the promo page and looked at that info, but given that promos in the past have always been static, it didn't even occur to me that there might be some further information to read. There was some understanding that there was no "complete-the-set-and-save-more" theme this time, which made it completely unnecessary for me to look at the promo page at all (or so I thought).

Like I said, I'm not really that beat up over it, or ranting that I deserve the sales or am going to boycott GOG or something. Quite the opposite, I just bought 5 games from the promo in case they have some future expiration date that I'll miss amongst the holiday festivities. Just figured I'd point out that communications on these types of issues could be improved in the future.
Perhaps GoG can include a countdown timer for each game like Gamersgate.
GOG needs to stop releasing so many RPGs. I had no idea so many people here were illiterate. Perhaps next time they'll replace the main page banner with a yellow-and-black striped warning that flashes "WARNING: SALE ENDS IN X DAYS!" and forces you to click confirm.

If you were at all interested, you'd have gotten what you wanted in the first week, or even the first day. Obviously, you weren't terribly eager for a sale on any of the games on offer, so you can afford to wait until next time.

It was fine, GOG. I saw it from the first day. It was right there in black and white, clear as day. It still is. Perhaps it was for the best, maybe it sorted out the people who deserve to pay full price, and rewarded those who actually bothered to pay two seconds of attention to the effort that the guys at GOG put into designing the page.

I'm sorry. I've been seeing this all over the forums. You had your chance, you botched it. Perhaps it should be made even more clear next time. However, you knew there was a sale, and not only did you ignore it and not bother to look for more detail on the promo page, you didn't even ask on the forums about any expiration dates, nor did you read through the many several posts in response to the announcement, made before the deal ended, that made mention of the Atari promo ending before the entire sale, which became quite a popular topic on the last day. The promo even lasted several hours into the day after...

Are you serious? I gotta say that of all the possible responses, this one is particularly strange. Honestly, taking your argument to the extreme, GOG should have not announced anything at all and maybe tacked a small mention of the promo at the end of the Gaming Deals thread or something. That way only those who really really deserved discounted games would get them.

Look, I'm not posting cause I got my panties in a knot that I didn't save $3 on a few games. I have 55 games on GOG, 30 of which have been sitting on my to-play list for like a year now. I've had enough time to play through a grand total of 1 in that entire amount of time. Trust me, I'll survive. The reason I posted is because, unlike your bizarre business sense, I realize that most of the time a company gives discounts cause they want to improve sales, and GOG would have gotten an extra $50 or whatnot out of me had I known that the sale was going to partially end. I didn't "read through the many several posts in response to the announcement" (again, are you serious?), and I really don't feel violated that the sale is gone. Mostly, I regret GOG losing out on some potential profits. I'm also sure I'm not the only one who neglected to spend a bunch of time during the holidays posting questions (which had never before had to be asked) about expiration dates for individual games of a promo, and it bums me out that GOG is missing out on profits from other people as well.

So I can, and definitely will, wait until next time. Or just buy them at full price (which at GOG prices is perfectly reasonable) when I'm ready to play them. And hopefully anyone else does the same. But, as a business, I'm sure GOG doesn't care if people "deserve to pay full price". While it may be part of the intent, the main point of the sale probably isn't to do you and those that deserve discounted games a favor, but to promote their games to the biggest possible audience. And slightly more clear wording would have made that more effective.
As you are not even remotely the only one, I suppose this really is something that could be improved in the future. The countdowns Steam has are definitely a good idea; they catch your attention and create a sense of urgency. The bright side is that the catalogue isn't all that big, so promos tend to repeat themselves. The games sold here can wait for their new audiences some more; they are really good at that by now.

And GOG has indirectly confirmed they are aware of their communication problems, so hopefully they'll do something about it in the future. I'd hate to see it spread even further.
