I couldn´t find a topic about P2, so i started this. Should there be one, i am sorry for the new one.
But i have some questions that bother me to a high degree:
back in 96, i played P2 and cursed it´s frequend crashes like so many others, so i seek reasurence that the version here is free of these failiures;
also, i would like to know what resolution the gog version allowes. My monitor has a 16/10 res with 1680:1050, whith many older titles do not support;
lastly, i have only UPC-joysticks nowadays (Saitek Cyborg evo, `cause i´m left-handed), can the games support them?

I only got me an account on gog.com because of P2, even my nicknack stems from the Heretic fighter in it, so i hope someone can give me the answeres i seek.
Hi there. Unfortunately I can't answer any of your questions, but I think you should post in the game-specific sub-forums if you have a question relating to a game on gog. For Wing Commander Privateer it would be this one:

http://www.gog.com/forum/wing_commander_series#1381776212

I'm pretty confident that someone can help you over there.
There's a patch out for P2 that greatly improves the visuals.
You can find it at http://www.wcnews.com/news/2013/10/01/new-privateer-2-patch-adds-deinterlace-feature-numerous-fixes
There's alot of ressources on the site, many of which works great with the GOG versions of the games.

Heretic1311:
If you currently own the Windows version of the game you are in luck because gog.com sells the DOS version which should run troublefree under Dosbox.
I am thinking on buying it as I too am the owner of a Windows version of The Darkening.

I think for buying it, but first i want to make sure about above said details. Resolution, bugs and USB-joystick compatibility. Or, if it is at least patchable, moddable or such.

Resolution; the Windows version I have runs only in 640x480, don't know about the gog.com (DOS) version, you will be able to crank up the resolution within Dosbox but it will be hard to see any difference though, you do have the option to apply scalers/filters to make things look less pixalated but that is more a matter of taste than anything else.

Bugs; just the bugs the game had originally, don't know if there are problems with Dosbox and this game but in my experience there are very few problems with Dosbox in general.

USB-joystick; any USB-joystick that works with Windows will work with Dosbox, you might need to make some changes in the joystick section of the .conf file though, generally this will work for most joysticks and games:

[joystick]

joysticktype=auto
timed=false
autofire=false
swap34=true
buttonwrap=false

As for mods, I don't know of any, maybe the Wing Commander CIC site hosts any.
