anjohl: Meh, important for its time, but Sands of Time is by far the more important game.

hedwards: How so, for convincing people that it's a crap franchise? The controls and camera on that were so bad that I'm sure there were plenty of people that retroactively hated the earlier game.
Lol, SOT received UNANIMOUS critical praise, and was a MAJOR linchpin in the modern action game renaissance, ala Uncharted, God of War, etc. God, some of your PC snobs REALLY have your heads up your asses.

It's still a crap game. I tried playing it and I had to give up because the controls were that bad.

As for heads up the asses, nice insult, I own the game, I tried to play the game, the game was terrible. It could have been a great game had they not screwed up the controls and turned it into a virtually unplayable mess.

There's a lot to like, but ultimately a game with bad controls is still a game with bad controls. When the controls are as bad as the ones for SOT it's just idiotic to argue that it was anything other than a crap game.

Try it as it was meant to be played, with a Gamecube/PS2 controller, on the respective console. Also, you are complaining about bad controls in a thread about Prince of Persia (Original)? Lol.

YMMV, I really hate finite statements like that.
a) I have finished the entire modern POP trilogy with mouse + keyboard and never got why people got so worked up about controls. It had some camera issues, sure, but controls were far from horrible or unplayable. And even if you do find controls so unbearable, why not just use a controller? They're like 20 bucks you know.

b) The fact that you find controls bad doesn't mean the rest of the game is.

c) POP trilogy was one of the most moving and brilliant games I have ever played. Writing, level design, everything was excellent, down to varying atmosphere and gameplay between installments. So yeah, because you personally can't stand controls doesn't make it a bad game.

I loved it, and given what has to be done I was amazed how little problem I had doing all the crazy things you need to do. Often times when I did have control issues it was because I was giving it too little credit for it knowing what I wanted to do. I also like how it makes me feel that if only I were in better shape, that maybe I too could run along walls and make spinning leaps from poles.

Cheers to opinions, but I sit firmly among the crowd on POP Sands.

I did give up on it early on when I had it on Xbox, but I bought it here and got way into it. (first GOG purchase I think.)

Gersen: Given that the source code is in assembler... in Apple 2 assembler for that matter, before having anything usable on a modern system it will first require somebody to rewrite everything from scratch into another more portable language.
I would wonder if, with hardware that old, it'd be easier to just emulate the necessary hardware/software instead of trying to port everything over.

I find statements like that a little overreaching (and how do you define "more important"?), considering that if it weren't for the original PoP there likely wouldn't be a game like Sands of Time to begin with. You'd might as well make the argument that Halo was "more important" than Doom or Wolf 3D.
