Im flying to Germany tomorrow and need some info on what prepaid internet i should be getting while im there.
Anyone got an idea for me?
Prepaid internet? You mean like a SIM card and prepaid cellphone plan?

The only one I can really comment on is the one Aldi Talk does (from Aldi supermarkets - they're all over the place, so it shouldn't too hard to find one). You can pay €15 a month and that'll give you 5GB of traffic. Be warned though - coverage is pretty dreadful and speeds aren't great either. Don't expect to be downloading large games with it.

I guess the major providers (Deutsche Telekom, O2, Vodafone) probably do something similar, and there are loads of secondary providers like Fonic (which is basically Lidl's network) and Congstar that sell their wares in supermarkets.

I would suggest picking up the appropriate SIM card pack in Lidl or Aldi then. The word you're looking for is "Datenflat". We use "prepaid" in German just like in English. You could probably go into a proper mobile store or into Media Markt/Saturn (basically our version of Best Buy), but the chances are that the salespeople will try their hardest to sell you a contract.

Yer welcome :)

Enjoy your stay!
Yes, Aldi-talk is pretty good for these purposes. A tad slow, though.
You have to find the approriate Aldi-Discounter Supermarket which is normall a bit off from city centers. And it may takes a day or two until you can use the Sim Card.
Alternatively you can check whether 1&1 still have a prepaid Flat where the first 3 Months are free. The 1&1 has some shitty buisness practises but judging you know AT&T and the others form the US that shouldn't be anything new, right?
I took that 3 Month Free and prepaid afterwards thing and it worked like a charm.
You can probably order it online, but I don't know if they sent it to your hotel adress without fuss.

Good luck and have a nice time in Germany.

Agreed on 1&1 business practices. I'm with them for landline and internet, and the actual product is fine (better than most up here in the North), but I honestly wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. The number of times they've called me promising something "free" only to admit that it does cost money after repeated and specific questions is astonishing. I eventually had to blacklist their call centre number through my router just to stop the daily phone calls.

In that respect though, avoid Mobilcom Debitel as well.

You got typo, there I fixed it for you! :-)

German Internet providers and mobil-phone contract companies just suck big time. But as far as I hear that happens all over the world.

1&1 is one of the more obnoxiously stupid ones. Their products are fine, their service is utterly crap though. Got a REFUND for the TOTAL of 0,00€ Euro for not using my Internet byCall card mentioned above. Go figure...
Oh and I'm no longer counting any Call-Center's calls anymore someone whose number I don't know and who doesn't speak on my mailbox simple isn't worth my precious time.
