Weird fiction gamified.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, a gripping narrative-focused thriller inspired by the early XX. century pulp horror stories, delivering a non-linear story of an investigation with some occult undertones, and sporting some gorgeous first person-perspective graphics, is available for Pre-Order on GOG.com for $19.99. The pre-order exclusive Special Edition comes with a full high-quality MP3/FLAC game soundtrack, a "Making Of" digital document, a high-res poster, and a Red Creek Valley map.

Inspired by the weird fiction (and other tales of the macabre) from the early twentieth century, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to significantly evolve immersive storytelling in games. While it features a private detective and quite a few mental challenges, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is not an especially puzzle-ridden game. Our focus is on atmosphere, mood, and the essential humanity of our characters. Still, the discoveries won’t happen on their own, or without your help. Using both Paul’s supernatural skill of being able to communicate with the dead, and your own powers of observation, you will discover the mystery behind a trail of corpses, the roots of a dark ancient force lurking in Red Creek Valley, and the fate of a missing boy.

This is is a first-person story-driven mystery game that focuses entirely on exploration and discovery. It contains no combat or explosions of any kind. If our game leaves any scars, we hope you won’t be able to see them. Feeling intrigued? Pre-order The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - Special Edition today, for $19.99. This bonus-packed version is a pre-order exclusive. The regular version will take its place after the game launches on Thursday, September 25, and it will be available - sans bonus content - for the same price.

*high five*

Thanks for the backup holmes.

The whole situation was quite frustrating. I don't give a rats arse whether or not I get the game on time (as I usually wait for patches anyway, plenty in the backlog to occupy me), but I can imagine a significant hit to GOG's sales as a result of developer's continuing to do this day one Steam only garbage, for whatever reason.
I may have stretched a bit with the patch thing, but there was a post by one of the blue's about them not having received the patch.

Still going to wait to play the game until more of the fixes are up.

F1ach: I am playing the game now in longer bursts to try to overcome the autosave system, but today was the first "burst", I had to quit out in the middle of the blue door house last night, cos of motion sickness from the game, hence I had to redo alof of earlier crap.
Did you try turning off motion blur? I saw a few people on the Steam forum mention that turning off motion blur helped with eliminating motion sickness (I always turn motion blur off immediately if I get the chance, so I'm not sure what it does in the house of doors).

Yes I have done all the required things, like put the crosshairs to always on etc. Last night was the first chance I had to play like that, but most of the time was spent re-covering old ground and doing the doors thing, so, by the time I had finished that and got a hard save point there, I didn't want to go on to the next puzzle until I had enough time to spend to clear it, so I wouldn't have to replay extra stuff again.

If you look at my Steam account it says I have 6 hours spent on the game but that's from having to replay stuff, I'll finish the game but I have to say I am not bowled over by it yet, maybe Im hating on it cos of the restarts :)
