Order in the line!

Papers, Please, a unique dystopian game of social drama, and political statements, challenging your alertness, attention to detail, and morals with the puzzling and stressful work of an immigration inspector, is available for pre-orders on GOG.com, for Windows and Mac, for only $9.99!

Comrade! As you assume your post at the Grestin Border Checkpoint the Ministry of Admission would like to remind you that your work is crucial to the safety of the People's Republic of Arstotzka. The enemies of the state are many and our borders should remain impenetrable. Stay alert! Terrorists, spies, and miscreants will take advantage of your every smallest mistake to enter our motherland and threaten the people. Be vigilant! Always check and double-check every detail. Never ignore any inconsistency. The safety of our glorious nation rest is your personal responsibility! Oh, by the way, comrade--you will be paid based on the number of people you control each day. And we're raising your rent.

Papers, Please simulates the work of a immigration inspector whose responsibility is to controll the passports and other papers of the people trying to cross the border of your country. Your job gets more complicated daily, as new regulations are passed by the Ministry of Admission and the illegal immigrants get more and more creative in the attempts of tricking you into letting them in. You will face the grim reality of a dystopian communist republic of the early 1980s as you try to support your family and not end up in front of a firing squad as a traitor. Challenging, morally ambiguous, and intense gameplay will blow your mind!

Pre-order Papers, Please for only $9.99 and feel the Ministry of Admission breathing down your neck, as soon as the game arrives (which is expected to happen on August 8).
I was thinking I would pick this up some time, but exclusive gear for pre orders only makes me think I would rather just tell this dev to fuck off.

Pre orders just encourage people to risk buying a bad game (although in this case there is obviously a demo). I don't mind discounts for pre orders but I don't like the idea that if I pre order a game (or kickstart a game) I get some benefit that others who might not be willing or able to take that risk miss out on.

Big fat pass from me.
I've put this on pre-order, but I really hope that GOG is not limiting the extras to only those who pre-order. That's a bad path to take. I choose to believe that they merely mislabeled the extras as such in part of setting up the game card, since the game itself is pre-order. Tell me I'm right, GOG.
This looks rather intriguing. Downloading beta/demo :).

I must say I'm also a bit disappointed in the "exclusive pre-order bonus" thing. More so than the Omerta DLC experiment, which at least isn't a time-restricted blind purchase. It seems GOG's principle of "the most complete version of a game" doesn't extend to documentation etc.
Hopefully enough people vote with their wallets and this pre-order exclusives crap won't happen again.

It's a shame, this is a game that deserves a nice release.

Hi guys,

The mention of "preorder extras" was just because of some internal confusion. Those extras are for everyone.

This has nothing to do with the dev and it's just our own mixup.

Sorry about this!

rulebook (for preorders only)
Wait, how the f' is a manual a preorder bonus? What kind of sense does that make? Make the poster a bonus, make the standalone soundtrack a bonus, fine, but making a manual the bonus!?

EDIT: OK, thanks for the clarification

That's what immediately struck me too when I looked at the game card, and made me decide there and then I won't be buying it.

Honestly, I played the 6-day demo and thought it was boring anyway. I did think I'd take a look at it again as I'd heard it was a lot more fleshed out for the full game and the concept is definitely unique but.......with extras only available for pre-order (I never ever pre-order games), then just for the principle it makes it a no buy for me..

EDIT: Never mind, just saw the blue post from TurnipSlayerr -- now that's the GOG I know and love :) Thanks, TS.

Hurrah, my suspicions were correct for once. (Twice, if you count "the geraniums are watching me".) Glad to hear this was just a kind of misprint and not a dreadful new policy. Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the clarification, pre ordered.
Far out, a game about the GOP platform.
Excellent backpedaling! This is how you test waters.
I was expecting The Legend of Kyrandia trilogy or other classic release . :(
Loved the ideas in the beta but at 10 dollars, I'm not sure if it's worth it, besides he could end up selling on Humble Store too with an eventual Steam key. It's full price anyway, not even 10%.

I'll pass for now and see what people have to say about it.
