If you buy Portal 2 on the PS3, and link your PSN account with your Steam account, Valve will give you a SteamPlay copy of Portal 2 for no extra charge.
Thats pretty cool to see them doing that on the PS3 though isn't that the point of steamplay anyway?

Gabe Newell likes to change his opinions wildly. Now he's calling Xbox Live a piece of shit that holds the console back from its true potential.

Like when he said publishers charge too much for games then went on to release the 4 hrs of Left 4 Dead as a full price title? Okay, so there has been some more content since, but still. The point stands.

And it should stay that way.

I don't really see why a developer shouldn't be allowed to use their own servers for game content from a consumer standpoint. For Microsoft it's of course a matter of money since they will now be able to charge for stuff that Valve would like to provide for free.

I don't see a reason why a third party business company should be delivering games to my console. I already have one to worry about.

Besides, what can Valve offer to me that Microsoft cannot? Another DRM crap to deal with?
I assumed that and it's brilliant that it's actually going to happen.
Time to go out an pre-order this for the PS3 now :D .... and what you's left out was cross platform play :P

Pretty much.

Steam, Xbox Live and PSN are all the same thing really, a lot of people just view Steam as the best of the three. In the end though I do kind of agree that the console ideal would be one service, one controller. The whole point of consoles is supposed to be closed systems with plug and play accessibility. The more bakers you put in the kitchen, the more of that you lose I would think. As much as I personally do not like the Microsoft method on Xbox Live that system is the most popular in large part due to their methods of running it.
