Titanium: The registry is just misunderstood. We can't all be perfect, Mr. Linux.
I understand at least the basics of the registry as far as programs installed and all the services. I can registry dive without screwing it up but don't ask me registry related questions since I am not an expert on it.

The above quote was a paraphrase of "the liver is evil and must be punished!" :P

Until morale improves the beatings will continue.

But, the registry itself was never a good idea. I'd much rather have a set of text files that I can edit using the standard utilities. If the OS then parses them out and caches them in binary format that's all well and good, but storing things in the registry was never a good idea and it's caused many head aches over the years.

I remember having my CDROM go AWOL as a result. Then there was that time where I had to manually edit the registry to restore the monitor to full resolution. Ooh, and those times when registry fragmentation made the system slow as sludge.

Oh god I need to make a habit of putting smiley faces everywhere, people think I'm serious for some reason.

That's why I put smileys after some of my posts so I don't have people getting their panties in a twist when I try to make a comment that I think is humorous. As far as them actually being humorous....well...yeah.
Well it is definitely hit and miss.

Most of the older games are portable. All the kings quest and Broken sword. Even Oddworld Strangers Wrath & Real Myst.

But other newer games require the registry. :P

Which is where something like this may be useful.

Most games, even if they requires registry access, are still portable and can be copied from computer to computers, even Steam games and DRM using ones as long as you have an Internet access to reactivate them on the new computers. When I changed my computer I just plugged my games HD on the new one and most games were working fine. Even the GFWL ones after I managed to copy my offline account.

Of course copying game folders has two main side effects :

- Most patch/expension/DLC installer wont work, they won't detect that the game is installed

- As the game wasn't installed it won't be possible to "uninstall" is cleanly, meaning that the registry entries / folder / whatever it will create will remain and you will have to clean them manually.
