wwee: First one is the best. All I can remember is the kid looking at the tv screen and the line

.... they're here......
So you remember the cover?

doccarnby: Tangina is most awesome.

shadesofdeath320: You guys do realize that was just Danny Devito in drag, right?

jk, that movie was the reason clowns terrified me as a child. I remember having a nightmare and going in to my parents room to sleep after seeing that movie, but ended up going back to my room because of the tv in my parents room.

edit: sry, can't spell no guds
...darn. You're right. Now that's just DISTURBING. Thanks so much :P

CalamityRanger: I remember the meat scene freaked me out so badly when I watched it at a younger age. I do love the original movie so very much. I haven't seen either of the sequels though so I don't know how they compare. That being said, if 2 does continue the story I might just have to look into it.
You just don't like your food touching...

...touching YOU.

I love this trilogy. The second one actually has the scariest character in that old man, in my opinion. Also, the tequila scene is pretty gross.
Yeah, the tequila worm scene.....very interesting, to say the least.

Vaguely - it has been a number of years since last I saw it

What he means is that the cover features the little girl looking at the TV screen, and has the tagline "They're here" printed on it. So all you remember of the movie is the cover.

Actually both.

I remembered the poster and tag line - but I wasn't sure if it was a boy or girl...
The first movie manages to succeed despite Craig T. Nelson's 'acting'. I really don't remember the second, but the third was atrocious.
I love the first movie, but I've never seen any of the sequels. I guess it's about time I did.
Yep, I want to as well.
Wait, Poltergeist has SEQUELS? TWO SEQUELS?

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?

Oh, they're hee-eeere.
The first one is great scary family fun. I didn't like the second one at all as it rehashed the first one too much. The third starts very promising (the first 30 minutes or so) but then everything crumbles - obviously because of the girl's death.

But if you want to watch the R-rated version of Poltergeist, I highly recommend The Entity from 1981. It was actually released the year before Poltergeist came out. The Entity is disturbing on so many levels.

Edit; oh, while I'm talking about 80's horror movies; The Blob from 1988 is worth watching for the effects alone. As a bonus Kevin Dillon stars in it and if you've seen Entourage it's fun to imagine it as one of Johnny Drama's early roles ^^

She died while the film was in post production. The only thing her death affected, from a filming and story standpoint, was a re-shoot of the ending. That's why, if you pay close attention, you can't see her face through any part of the final scenes, just her hair (it was a double in a wig). The movie was still going to be that bad, even if she had lived.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. That's what you get when looking for answers on the imdb forums :-P

Let's say I like everything...

...up until the girl falls down the puddle of water in the parking lot. That scene was great.
