The Portal Kickstarter was just canceled. They realized they had no chance of reaching their goal, so they are going to scale down the game and relaunch with a new goal of $550,000.

550k is still seeming too high for them.

It's better to ask for too much and don't get funds than ask for too few and being unable to finish the game after you got money from people. It would be a scam.

Making a game is not a cheap thing. Kickstarter of Leisure Suit Larry Remake needed 500k just for a remake! And they pretty well explained why they need so much money.
