The thread title says everything. According to Eurogamer EA's Black Box studios is currently developing a multiplayer shooter in the Plants vs Zombies universe. Seems like they need Popcap's approval, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't EA own PopCap?
But will there be achievements?

EA can fire PopCaps board if they don't agree, but they need PopCaps approval. It is a technicality, sure. But maybe EA doesn't have 100% .. ?

As long as they own more than 50%, I assume what they say goes. But then I'm no expert on how these things work.
PopCap is a wholly owned subsidiary. They were acquired by EA for $650 million. I really don't think "approval" is quite the right word.

Technically they are still a separate legal entity. EA can call the shots, but they can't make the shots.

Sounds more like an EA henchman standing in the PopCap office, tapping a baseball bat in the palm of his hand, saying "We're using your IP, m'kay?" :-D

You would be surprised how accurate that image actually is in some cases ... ;-)

And technically, EA can and probably will fire them. :P

Haha, you're giving them too much credit. It should be a statement, not a question.

I don't understand it either. I tought EA had full control over Popcap's IPs, but that's what the article says.
What about the long awaited Peggle, the TPP Action RPG? Geez.
