so, yesterday PA finally hit version 1.0, and a lot of people are not happy with that. they claim the game is really unfinished and missing a lot of promised features from the kickstarter. they game also uses a always online DRM scheme for singleplayer and multiplayer, and the service has been pretty inconsistent in stability. I myself got the game and can confirm at the very least the lag, but have been as of yet unable to get enough time into the game to judge if it's "finished" or not.

Some things noted to be missing from the game atm that were atleast discussed during interviews or seen in the concept trailer include:

-40 player matches, game caps out at 10

-a "unit cannon" that fire's units from one planetary body to another

-player run servers, all matches are done through Uber Ent's servers.

-Asteroids.

It should be noted that a lot of these things will be added at a later date, and they plan to roll out a DRM-free somewhere down the line.

your thoughts?
Well, it feels like they're trying to make it out of beta and fulfill what they can : I think it's a good sign.

I can't understand the drm thing though, weakening the experience for their supporters because they think they can annoy those who don't care about their well being is .... kinda beyond me. Would it be blizzard and another Diablo I would 'understand' (shareholders, partners, it's not such an investment for them), but a small studio ??
I was initially very excited about this game I admit but after reading all the negative launch comments I've started to stir the other way and Wasteland 2 is on my aim next.

I'll wait till the game is truly finished before buying. This might be the only RTS I'll ever enjoy playing online so hopefully it will be the way I imagined it very soon.
I don't think they want it to use an online DRM per se, they just apparently haven't moved all of the resource management that their server does to just your computer. Even so, they shouldn't have 'released' the game if it's still considered so unfinished.

I loled at the moderator on Steam saying they're using the online only thing at the moment to discover bugs/issues/room for improvement easier and make sure everyone has the same version to do so. Isn't that what early access is about in the first place??

In short, they've abused the whole '1.0 is released' maybe in an attempt to bring more unknowing people to the game. Seems like a dirty move and it has most likely damaged their reputation.
Well it is a Kickstarter....buyer beware.May not turn out the way you want it. Saying its 1.0 and releasing it with incomplete features sounds like a dodgy move imho

Tragically enough the kickstarter was actually a scam, those in the industry knew Uber couldn't deliver. Supcom 1 + 2 both cost around 10 million each, there was no way you were going to make something there equal on 2.4 million.

It's obvious that they didn't have the team size and were taking gamers for a ride because they know nothing about game development.

The reality is many long time game developers are bitter at riot and activision for having online DRM'd games so successful and watching all that stupid money pouring into DRM'd games like LEague of legends and path of exile.

Many of them deep down feel like "they've been doing it wrong all this time". It's got to be a bitter pill to swallow when you watch demigod fail (an obviously better game than league of legends) all because they were operating under a traditional PC model of releasing the game and letting players own the game.

Going forward DRM is going to get worse, F2P games like world of tanks, league of legends, and diablo 3 and the money they are making hand over fist is going to push everyone in that direction sadly because the vast majority of these new kids/gamers are tech illiterate dumbasses.

The ignorant masses and their lack of knowledge and general stupidity with regard to tech means game companies can fleece them hand over fist.
