Hi guys just wanted to point your attention to one of the lesser known titles of this promo-

Independence War 2 is in my opinion at least one of the best Space Sims ever created offering open-ended "Free-Form" gameplay with some of the best flight mechanics around with great "inertia" physics model O' and it looks great too!

Tho lacking the deeper more dramatic tone of the original the game more then makes up for it with streamlined gameplay and the overall "feel" of the galaxy.
You really do get the feeling of a massive changing living universe with large number of factions all of them offering you a chance to pillage and trade as you see fit.

One of the biggest attractions and his biggest turnoff for some is the combat , taking a much more "realistic" and challenging approach then most space sims while still being much more accessible then the original with streamlined controls and vastly superior HUD and this time the physics are much more manageable.
Unlike in some space sims in Independence War 2 you feel just how fragile a space ship is , taking on multiple requires a much more tactical approach then we came to expect from the common Gung-ho mentality of most space sims.
Even after countless upgrades to the ships the game remains very challenging and doesn't offer any mid-mission save giving you a real sense of accomplishment when you finish one.
The "puzzle" portions can be unintuitive ,often requiring you to complete tasks in a precise order.

But overall I just love this game , a must buy to any space sim fan and at this price a must buy to pretty much any gamer.

I highly recommended it !
You should convert this into a review and post it on the game's page.

Not really a clone , but yeah it offers some free roam piracy and trading.
You can raid huge large number of factions which you can trade with and pillage freely mostly to upgrade your ships using the cargo and tech you trade for it.

And never used a mouse but considering the fact the ships handle similarly to Descent(sorta) I'm sure mouse control will work nicely

O' a lot of pepole seems to use a 360/PS3 controller for the game , seems like a great choice if you ask me

You can use those controllers instead of a joystick?

Haven't used one but users on the game forum reported using it more then once
@Aviadmd damn, i think i want some time soon to play some of the games we are talking here about including maybe descent

i have both ps3 and 360 controllers, and i think i already got a control scheme in my head
I've noticed that with age, I don't have the same drive or passion for videogames as before and once they start getting too hard, i simply quit, since there are several other games i can get my hands on.

I'm afraid this is what would eventually happen to me playing this game. No in-mission save doesn't give me a sense of accomplishment. It drives me hair pullingly mad to die seconds away from finishing a mission or for doing something stupid and having to replay all the way from the start of a mission out of a silly mistake. Also, I've read the game is difficult and I'm getting tired of difficult games. I couldn't finish Giants, Citizen Kabuto... worse! I couldn't finish the meccarin missions! Didn't even get to use Delphi or Kabuto because I got tired of replaying the same mission over and over again and not finding out how to survive it. The worst part is, my GOG shelf has Commandos Ammo pack sitting there looking pretty and I'm wondering if it'll be worth the hassle.

I do like the looks of the game though. IW2 looks pretty and it seems like it plays pretty from the videos I've watched.

I know the feeling , as a kid used to have all the time in the world now working 65+ hours a week barely got the time so like you said spending 45 min on a mission only to die 30 sec before the ending will lead to fits of rage in the form of some broken controllers!

But I got to say I rarely get the same feeling of accomplishment finishing games this days , even on harder difficulty setting most modern games are just way way to easy.
Look at games like the new Ninja Gaiden's arguably some of the tougher games in recent years , both of them just pale in comparison to the old Ninja Gaiden NES titles...

I'd recomand you download the demo , get the feel of the game.
It's not that bad once you get the hang of it -http://www.fileplanet.com/60713/60000/fileinfo/Independence-War-2:-The-Edge-of-Chaos-Demo

@karacho
Funny you said that , downloaded Descent 3 again 15 min ago hehe
