bansama: So because they exercise their right to refuse service to a site whose activities are bordering on being illegal, they're "fascist"? Methinks the Internet needs to grow the fuck up and stop acting like little children.
Fascist is by definition state and companies running each others errands. In this case suddenly VISA, MasterCard and paypal decide that wikileaks is illegal (after few politicians in US complain) and cut of the donations. No court order or anything. At the same time they do accept payment/donations to spammers, KKK and so on (observe that they cut of AllOfMp3 too first after the government was whining but again no court order).
Then we have the USG going to help VISA and MC in Russia (so that Russia would change the law to something that is more profitable for the two).

Internet has grown the fuck up and objects to such behaviour. Plus it is actually illegal in several countries in Europe to deny banking services without a court order.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it fascism, although it might have some of its features indeed. However, more payment options would be nice, if for the sake of having a choice if you are confronted with such actions.

Well, I don't think fascism is an accurate description. But from my communication with MasterCard I get the idea they aren't very sure they are legally in the green themselves. They won't even point me to a press release (guess what, there is none, just try some search machines) regarding the issue.
As far as illegality is concerned, if what you say is true, then newspapers balance on this ridge all the time, yet I haven't heard of any traditional news sources having been cut off from their subscribers? Might this be because they have a right not getting cut off?
Oh, and bytheway, feel free to also join the discussion here, which has become a discussion of alternatives, rather than a petition.
