I already sent a suggestion for this, but I'd like to hear your opinion about this.
I would love to have other payment methods. Paypal is alright, but it takes a long time to send the money there, and I don't have a credit card. I think it would be great to have faster payment methods, in Germany and Austria there is something called "sofortueberweisung", once the transaction is made, the money is immediately transferred.
Maybe gog could do something similar, it would be great for people without credit cards to be able to download the game as soon as they order it.

semmel: and I don't have a credit card.
Visa Electron - Debit card. Go get it.
Another possible option - many Austrian banks offer a debit card (Bankomatkarte) linked to accounts.

GameRager: I think we call it payment on delivery, and I don't think that'd work. Not many retailers online(worldwide based) or IRL in the U.S./etc trust that sort of thing anymoe....especailly with the economy falling apart.

Like Titanium said: Buy a prepaid generic debit card at a store and load it with cash, and you can use it here.
In fact what he refers to is adressing something very specific to the EU. The popular way to pay here is through bank transfer. However bank transfers take time, especially cross-border ones. That platform allows to do an almost immediate and "free" ( for the customer at least ) bank transfer from one country to another, a bit like paypal does with credit card payments. But it only works in 5 countries and only in some banks - most German, Austrian , largest Belgian and Swiss, a couple of UK banks ). EA.com accepts it for instance.

But I don't see how GOG would be interested in that, especially with their exotic payment channels...

Here at least, bank transfers are unheard of for normal small transactions... As has already been said, a normal current account at a bank usually comes with a debit card which can be used exactly like a credit card (apart from the fact the money comes straight from your account).

I do have a debit card, you can't use it to buy games on gog.

You may need to contact your bank to enable online purchases with that card.

As AndrewC suggested, I had to set my debit card up for internet banking before I could use it.

I later switched to Paypal, and pay them via the debit card.

basically there are 2 types of debit cards. online DCs allow immediate payment , just like a credit card. offline DCs need a bank-specific platform to be used in that way. Euro area favours the second type because it allows better control of money flows ( read because banks lobbied that way )

Card Complete offers prepaid VISA-branded credit cards in Austria. These work generally fine for all kinds of online purchases and can be loaded by a domestic wire transfer (which unexplicably seems to take much longer than any other bank transfer in my experience).

Moneybookers.com also offers a prepaid credit card (MasterCard branded) that is linked to you moneybookers.com account balance. Getting this card set up requires some proof of your identity, but unlike the card mentioned first, and also unlike PayPal, you can load funds using sofortueberweisung and "EPS" (a standard for real-time electronic wire transfers in Austria), and the loaded amount is available in your moneybookers account/credit card immediately.

Disclaimer: I am not an employee of, or in any way affiliated with, either of the companies mentioned. This post only reflects my personal experiences.

Damn... You can link paypal directly to a bank account though, right?
