Roberttitus: Maybe I am missing something that you guys are saying.... does Valve actually make any money off of the keys?
The publicly available documentation for Steamworks states that it can be used for free regardless of how the game is distributed (ie, Steam, retail or OEM).

Of course, what they actually demand of (larger) publishers in private is subject to NDAs so we can only guess as to whether they are actually charging them to use Steamworks in some form or other.

DodoGeo: Well if you ask me second hand sales are worse/hurting the industry more then piracy because you have people that are willing to buy the game, but the money doesn't go to the publisher/developer.
On the other hand a pirate won't pay any money for the game so "no money is lost" there since the pirate doesn't intend to buy the game in the first place.
Second hand sales still helps the economy. Piracy gives no benefits.

True, but this is the forum where we discuss our mutual hate of Steam and all kinds of DRM and not taxation and economics. :P

Oh, and my country made an economical hell for itself, so I'm not interested contibuting by doing it the right way.
