Well I'm one of the people that got sucked into the $1 game deal on Onlive, so I installed the program on both my main computer and my laptop. When i did their speed test I got 2.6, I dont know exactly what this # means but I heard you need a 3? to run it well. Yesterday my wife was on facebook, playing farmville or something like that on our main computer, walking dead was recording on DVR, someone downstairs was streaming the Green Lantern and I accidently left my 360 on connected to xboxlive. I tried to connect to onlive on my laptop and it frooze, then flashed a quick blue screen,then my laptop shut off instantly.


Im sure I overloaded the system, not sure of the speeds on the Wi-fi here but we do have our cable and internet together. I would of been really pissed if that was my Main computer. So I will be uninstalling it off of that computer( its pointless anyways having it on there because of the 512 mb graphic card) and seriously thinking of uninstalling it off of my laptop(integrated graphics).

I know onlive has inferior graphics, lag , DRM and deletion of purchases after 3 years
but I am a sucker for FREE and $1 games, the only thing i can say nice is being able to play a newer game on a laptop that cant run Doom 3 and having full games to demo.

I've not used Onlive myself but the requirement for 3Mbps download speed is just to transfer the video data from the Onlive server to your machine. If you had other internet using activities going on then that would just mean your bandwidth for each activity would be reduced so Onlive would just get a slower speed which would give stuttering or poorer quality video. It really shouldn't cause a blue screen just because your net gets too heavily used.

Possibly the Onlive client is badly coded. It'd be good to hear from other Onlive users here.

I don't see anything in there that indicates that it was the onLive client that did that other than a coincidence. Unless you're using an extremely underpowered laptop, there's no way that the client could do that to a computer.

I haven't used the client program in a while as I got a free microconsole when they were handing them out in the past, but the service has been getting more and more efficient as time goes by, and even back then it wasn't using much in the way of resources.

Typically what happens if it can't get enough bandwidth or the latency is poor, it will refuse to start. If it does start and the connection degrades, you'll get some artifacting and if it can't buffer up, then it will exit.

As for the graphics, when you have the bandwidth, the graphics are every bit as pretty as any that I've seen. It's mostly people with lame connections that make those sorts of accusations about the graphics. Even on my sucky 5mbps connection, I'll get phenomenal graphics when the ISP isn't overloaded.
Ive noticed an improvement in their service, when i first tried a few months ago it was basically unplayable(because of the lag) and when I tried it this time around it was far better( almost no lag) and my problem was a video hardware issue on my intel integrated graphics. window solutions said a live kernel event occurred?

It was just kinda weird I think my laptop meets the Onlive requirements vista 1gb 1.73ghz 32 bit.

Graphics are in the eye of the beholder, i guess I was comparing running Orcs must die via steam on 1600x900 and Orcs must die on Onlive which I think is 1024x768

It sounds like the OnLive client might be interacting with your video card doesn't like. Updating your driver might help (if you are somehow on an older driver), but I'd also report it to OnLive to see if it's something they can fix in client update.
