Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath will have been on GOG for a year.
Yet, still no Munch's Oddysee in sight. Not that anybody cares anymore. The Oddboxx was available from GamersGate, Direct2Drive (RIP), and Steam ages before Stranger's Wrath even showed up here. So just to add insult to injury, anybody who bothered to pay a premium here to pick up the other three games on GOG have been left waiting forever to overpay for Munch's Oddysee.
Perhaps it will be Thursday's release, so you can release a newer/indie game without it being overshadowed by the simultaneous release of an older game. You know, since nobody will care. At this point, you may as well replace the separate releases with a $15 Oddboxx in the store, and replace any instances of Oddworld on anybody's shelve with a copy of the Oddboxx as a show of good faith, or at least put it 75% off for the launch week or something, considering the ridiculous delay and the number of times it's been discounted everywhere else, so your loyalest customers don't feel completely screwed. :/
I've heard rumors about Oddworld Inhabitants giving the ok and GOG holding the game back due to issues. I'd have to assume that isn't entirely true, considering that didn't prevent games like Torchlight from being released.
Frankly, there can't possibly be a good enough reason for Munch's Oddysee to have been delayed from being released here this long. It's a bad joke. It seems to be a trend for publishers to have a selection of their games released here without any more titles from them for ages. Extras are nice, and sometimes GOG is the only option for DRM-free (and often the only place to buy a game digitally, period... at least until another store gets the rights as well a few months later), but why would anybody want to buy an incomplete series here piecemeal at a higher price when they can get a complete collection for cheaper?
I might not have an interest in the Oddworld series on GOG personally, but GOG is still the only place offering DRM-free Hitman. Assuming Munch's Oddysee does come to GOG on Thursday, then if things keep up the way they are, I'm looking forward to getting the one Hitman game I'm actually interested in buying here (Blood Money) on the second Tuesday of next February, to celebrate the anniversary of Silent Assassin being added to the catalog. ¬_¬
Sorry for the negativity. I think GOG could use the criticism. Sure, maybe they have their reasons, and they can't exactly release whatever the hell they want whenever they want to, but releasing games people want before they lose interest in buying them here is kind of important, and having GOG staff recognize that they've more or less sat on this game and have left people (probably five by now) waiting for a year would be nice.
Again, Oddworld doesn't personally concern me, but it's a disturbing and unpredictable trend. By the time we have every Legacy of Kain game but Blood Omen on GOG, GamersGate could have put a DRM-free $20 Legacy of Kain compete collection on sale for 75% off months earlier. Who knows if we'll ever see another Epic (Mega)Games or Apogee/3D Realms title again. We're more liable to lose any one of the publishers here on GOG before that happens. :|
If they're having so much trouble getting Blood Money released here after the first two, it's no wonder they're mostly releasing indie titles. I'd like to imagine they already tried to release Omikron here, but couldn't agree to give Square a tenth of the profits or something.
