Wishbone: Good question. He posts a question, leaves, and is never heard from again :-/
Nobody but a half-wit would ask a question and then forget about it with such haste. I'm afraid we must assume the worst. He's probably dead. ಠ_ಠ

Operation: Inner Space involved flying through folders of your actual filesystem, including additional drives like cd's and floppies as well as the hard drive. You'd go through each folder, save as many icons as you could (the actual icons of *.exe, *.txt, *.dll, etc would float around and looked just as they did in Windows), while destroying infected ones.

There was a formidable number of ships, and many silly ones like animal ships. There was also plenty of artillery (including special powers you can win from a black-hole minigame while in the hangar), different missions (including races), you could get arrested, kill a cop and take their handcuffs and use them on other ships which would cause them to go berzerk. I had a ton of fun playing it back then, yet I still don't own it since the developer doesn't know when to call it quits and charge a decent price for a game that probably doesn't even work well in Windows anymore.

Does "Stars!" and "Warpath" involve using your files, like the game sergioowns1 described? I'm not really seeing it in the descriptions. Actually, I'd like to know of some more games that involve your actual filesystem regardless...

Virus does.

Well, I know that one, seeing as you brought it up in the first place. ;)

The MobyGames page clearly describes it as a game with a similar concept to Operation: Inner Space, which is also why I didn't bring it up in the argument in my last post. I haven't been bothered to check if the other two games actually fit that criteria.

Okay, you just seemed to be mentioning every other game named in the thread, except that one.

I think the problem is that Gibush hijacked the thread early on, so most of the other suggestions are for his game, not the OPs.
well I may add another question and I played it in the same year margin. It was turn based and kinda multiplayer game. You were a spaceship and start with a random galaxy with 1-7 opponents and with some money. You may choose to spend some of your money for defence and they had an upkeep like if you buy a defense system for 250$ you have to pay the same amount at the begining of your next turn too ( I remember some of them, there was an evasion which activates when a missile comes to or near you and makes you jump to a random location to avoid the impact and absorb which absorbs the whole effect of the missile.)

the shooting was like old windows games, you have to set your angle and speed then press fire. Of course you can choose your missile from a very very long list.

So I cant remember its name but other then the name I remember almost everything about it, the graphics, the stupid midi music the interface etc. please help =)
ah and whenever you push fire button, the AI ship you aimed says something random like 'I am not one of those pathetic worms' or 'If you only knew the power of the dark side'
