dreadcog: The only DRM I've seen that works is the dreaded CD Starforce. It works so well infact that when you buy the game you can only play it on Windows XP and sometimes that's not enough.

Lucibel: You can download a Vista-compatible Starforce update though.

I've tried the Starforce update. I get the blue screen of death.
So I go here:
http://www.glop.org/starforce/
Remove Starforce off my Vista machine and play it on my XP machine.

mogamer: I'd rather download a NOCD crack though.

I haven't found one that works. The only one's that do have to work with a specific version it was cracked for. Even a cracked Starforce game is so intertwined with the games coding that it has little checks in the programming loops that cause the game to freeze and crash.

Gundato: Not quite. What I am saying is that I wouldn't at all be surprised if the following happened:
0000: I am going to go make a post, because GoG is so much cheaper and awesomer than Steam (true, for the most part).
0500: Wow, people are actually arguing that Steam is better. Those douchebags. They are wrong because logic is on my side (probably true, but always a surefire way to cause a flamewar. Contrary to popular belief, "logic" is not universal, and is a surefire way to piss people off).
0530: Crap, I need to go to work/school/church/whatever.
1900: Wait, why are my posts deleted?
1905: Wait a moment, a lot of posts are deleted.
1906: Hmm, they seem to be talking about the deleted posts in this thread.
1910: Those pricks. Steam are apparently deleting and blocking all mention of GoG, I am going to go tell them that is a very bad idea (again, probably true, but I think we can see how the next few posts aren't going to help...)
1920: What the hell? Just because I mentioned GoG, I got my post deleted? (at the very least, the mods probably saw that as trying to start up a fight/argument/whatever. And, quite possibly, it was one :p)
2100: Bah, Steam's mods are all jerks (again, probably true).

bansama: Good read, however, that's not how it happened. And yes, I happened to be reading the threads when this did happen -- I also happen to know what the 2 mods who edited out "GOG" and "Good Old Games" are generally like, having seen how they've acted in the past.
Seriously, at that point all you had to do was simply state "I bought it X on GOG because of Y" where Y could be price, extras or anything else that was flaming anyone, and the very mention of "GOG" would be edited out of your post. Whereas any post praising Steam over GOG would not be edited in any fashion, even when the posters were flaming others.
I'm just stating the facts here. I, by the way, didn't post in the topics -- I simply read them. Both before and after the edits. Although have been given an infraction (oh scary!) by one certain moderator over there when I corrected a very obvious (non-GOG related) mistake they had made. They couldn't handle being wrong =)
Even on non-commercial sites it would still be a bit much to expect them to allow people to spam their forums with ads for other services.
But the point is; you can pretty much post away about D2D, GamersGate and Impulse all you want (in fact there have been substantial threads created about all 3 on the Steam forums) and very very few of those have ever been locked, let alone deleted.

Fair enough. That is basically what I was looking for. Someone who actually had a perspective that wasn't acting as though anyone who didn't want to kill Valve were idiots :p
I still suspect that there was a bit more to the GoG "ban" than what meets the eye (you yourself admit that D2D and what-not were still allowed), but this sounds a lot more reasonable. And, while I don't frequent the Steam forums, I suspect that ban has probably been lifted (likely within a few days). So it likely had more to do with a specific event, rather than GoG in general.
I still suspect that there was more to this than meets the eye (like Transformers!), but I can't really argue that without firsthand knowledge.
Ban, if possible, could you give a quick account of what actually happened (or link to an account of it)? I am actually very curious. And I am glad you also enjoyed the read (assuming you aren't a meany who was sarcastic and also hates my analogies :p).
And Namur, I apologize if my interest in possibly seeing the other side of the debate offended you in some way. If you would like, next time I think that there might be a biased viewpoint involved, I'll just plug my ears and sing the theme song to either of the Iron Man cartoons :p. The older one gets credit for blatantly cashing in on Black Sabbath, but the newer one gets credit for having the most pathetic music video I have seen in years (you can see the sadness and desperation in the eyes of the band because they realize that they are reduced to writing theme songs for second-rate cartoon shows :p).

I think that sums up everything quite nicely...
