StingingVelvet: Yeah, I can't believe that acronym has caught on. It means "there ain't no such things as a free lunch."
"Caught on"? It's been around since the 60s.

I haven't seen it as an acronym used in 'net conversation until the last couple months. I wasn't talking about the saying itself.

I'm familiar with the phrase but I'd never seen it as an acronym until today.
BOHICA's the one that I miss; nobody really uses it anymore.

Enlighten me?
"Bend Over Here It Comes Again." I always liked it because it sounded like some kind of 70's surfer slang. I had an old book with a section that covered online slang, it's probably still at my parents somewhere. (It was a guide to using irc clients and telnet etc from 1997 I think)

Actually I was referring to the acronym itself, "No such thing as a free lunch" and other variations date back to the early 1900s. TANSTAAFL first appeared in 1966 with the publication of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

So I guess the sites you hang out on don't have a lot of scifi fans/libertarians on them or something.

I definitely have to remember that one.

Well... no, probably not.
