He's not the most intelligent sportsman, that's for sure ;P

keeveek: Isn't [gymnastics] the greatest sport of them all?
avatar
Krypsyn: I don't know know if it is the greatest, but watching those girls on the beam apparatus gets me every time. Those blind and backwards jumps and flips and cartwheels on that thing... yeesh.

avatar
keeveek: But he actually IS a living legend. What's so arrogant in telling the OBVIOUS truth?
avatar
Krypsyn: That he felt he had to tell everyone.
LOL, exactly.

It's pretty obvious he's a unique athlete but when he feels he has to keep pointing it out, I think, it's disrespectful to the other athletes in the races with him. It's like he's saying, "Don't even bother competing against me, because I'm miles above where any of you will ever be".

Bloodygoodgames: The latest Bolt comment - "I'm now a legend. I'm the greatest athlete to live". No. not arrogant at all :)

Compare Bolt (who I really can't stand), to the American runner Maneto Mitchell who actually broke his leg yesterday while running. He finished the race, with a broken leg, just so he didn't let his 3 team mates down -- and the American team qualified for the finals with the fastest time, even with Mitchell running with a broken leg.

No, Bolt isn't "the greatest athlete to live". Mitchell is probably quite high up there though :)

gameon: Point taken, lol.

The broken leg thing reminds me of the boxer Danny Williams, who once won a fight with one arm (the other was a dislocated shoulder). Incredible.
Wild isn't it that anyone could do that? (And I'm not familiar with Danny Williams - but that's amazing too!

I can't even imagine how much pain Mitchell was in, but he kept going because of the other guys on his team, yet he still wasn't "full of himself" when he was interviewed afterward.

To me, that's a real 'legend' and not one who's so conceited he just has to tell the world how good he is.

Here's some boxing footage of the dislocated shoulder moment:

Jesus, that was pretty incredible! He could barely stand from the pain yet he managed to win by knocking his opponent down twice and almost knocked him out. Now THAT'S a true 'legend', eh? And a well deserved British title (can't believe I've never heard of this???)

I think it was in 2003 (before he beat a faded Mike Tyson). Boxing isn't as big as it once was, but i've always been a fan.

Danny Williams has fought recently, but he's a journeyman these days. Plus he's 38 i think.

That makes a bit more sense why I missed it.

It was late 2002 when I moved to Thailand and so the next two or three years were pretty much me being obsessed with Thai culture and not reading much about what was going on elsewhere. Now I'm back to my Proud of Being British self, I read the Indie and The Guardian daily so would catch anything like that now :)
Well, Bolt is my favourite athlete of the Olympics and I don't think he is arrogant. The audience wants a show and he is delivering it.
Bit similiar to Muhammad Ali. He was bragging quite a lot, too.
While I am too young to have Ali ever seen fighting live, I still think he is one of the greatest sportsman of all time.

I felt exactly the same way about Ali, and I am old enough to have since his fights when he was at his prime :) Didn't like him then.

I do feel sorry for him now though. It must be so difficult for someone like that to have to suffer with MS as he does.
United States win this time! I'm impressed, really.

And even North Korea has more golden medals than Poland has...
