Yes it's an inappropriate thread for a game forum but I'm asking my friends in here for some advice.

Does anyone else in here live in the middle of nowhere? My internet has always been fine but my email (Outlook) has totally turned to shit, and my provider (my brother in CA) keeps telling me because of where I live there is nothing I can do about it. Honestly I think he's being a little lazy about it and I also think he tends to look down on anyone who doesn't live in "modern civilized' society and thus he's trying to rub in how stupid we are for staying in a town with a population of 88. Or is it 87? I think Jeb died last week. :P

Anyway I refuse to believe that and I want some reassurance from someone else in the boondocks with a good email setup that my brother is totally full of shit. :D

Thanks

Ok let's make this not awkward anymore :

I usually use Thunderbird (mozillaWare) when not using the built in Gmail functionnalities. You could give it a shot, if you are not familiar with configuring your POP and IMAP, there are lots of tutos around the web to guide you.

Side note : your brother (zartrez ?) sounds dickish :P

(edit : I know I am not solving your issue here, it's just that I know so few people using outlook that there must be a reason :)

The simple answer is: if your internet connectivity is generally good, then your email should be working fine.

Perhaps you can be more specific about your Outlook problems and your brother's analysis.
How large are your Outlook files, and which version are you using? Outlook can become tremendously slow when it is not properly maintained, and it drags a computer's performance down as well.

I don't know whether I qualify as a friend, but I'll post anyway. Your question is definitely not unappropriate. Why should it be?

What do you mean by "has totally turned to shit"? Personally, I hardly use hotmail/live/outlook anymore, since its interface has, indeed, totally turned to shit.

As one one who's hometown is has a population of 10, my email works fine for what I ask of it, so I don't see an issue with how email should be an issue in your city though like Potzato I use Thunderbird

Thanks for everyone's replies and to Dalswyn, I consider everyone in this forum a friend; que teary Oscar Award winning moment. :P

I've got a local guy coming up in the next day or two and at least now I know that he can do something about it. :D

As for my brother, he is kind of dickish which is tough because I'm a big "blood is thicker than water guy" so it's turning into an episode pf Dr. Phil here. XD
As for your brother, tell him his arguments about civilization have won you over and you are packing your bags and you should be on his door step within a week. See how he responds to that ;)

I agree with this.

Just making sure: are we talking about the Outlook application in your computer or the new Outlook web that replaced Hotmail?
What version of Outlook and operating system? Any specific error messages? Or failing that, more details of the problem. I can probably help.
It looks like where we live Outlook is toast and we are going to have to switch to Gmail, which I like, but my folks are going to be a tough sell.
Can't see why it would make any difference. Are you using the Outlook program on your PC, or are you using the website-formerly-known-as-hotmail Outlook.com?

I don't know but I keep hearing that Outlook will not work with a mid to lower speed connection which mine is. It is a solid connection and I think it's fast but for someone in a city it might seem like molasses.
That's news to me! Unless you're regularly emailing lots of pictures or video files, emails are pretty small and not a lot of data transfer is involved. I don't know how fast your broadband connection is, but some of the users I support don't get much more than 0.5Mb and they have no problems with email.

Nah, I don't believe that's true. We are talking about Outlook in your computer, right? And not Outlook.com, which is where all of your email is on the web and not in your computer? Outlook.com is a web suite, and it will be terribly slow if your connection is not good.
