keeveek: Then please add new wishlist state/feature "rejected".
avatar
timppu: I presume that would be applicable only to wishes which GOG has decided they will never fulfill, even if it was possible? E.g. "Add DRM to the games!" and such?

Then again, never say never...
Maybe he meant GOG should add the feature/wishlist status of "Umcompleteable"(Like for ones that obviously can't be completed any time soon like "Add more old games to GOG" type requests?
Something like GameRager said, also wishes like "Activate already owned (e. g. on Steam) games on GOG " should be gone. They're just littering the wishlist.

Rejected also for wishes GOG has no desire to complete - why giving useless hope?

Why? Just because people don't agree that the idea is wholly feasible doesn't mean that the idea doesn't belong on the wishlist. There is no reason why such a feature cannot be implemented in practical terms, at least with certain games.

CDP started the ball rolling in this field with certain titles, Almost Human did a similar thing by allowing purchases from their website to be transferred to GOG. Granted, it's not really feasible with very old games like Doom, but with games that had CD keys, I see no reason why this shouldn't be possible. I assume companies like EA still have their database of CD keys to hand that they issued for various games post-2000.

After all, the vast majority of people who had already bought a game on disc are not going to go out of their way to buy it on GOG. GOG has a choice in this regard - sacrifice a little more bandwidth for these customers and keep them coming to the site, or keep up with the hope that they will eventually buy the game on GOG.

I'm posing a theoretical situation here. I know the circumstances, especially with older triple-A titles, make it very unlikely that such a feature could be provided, but with certain compromises it is feasible in terms of licensing and tech to provide transfer services with selected games.

keeveek: Now we have "forever in progress" wishes and nothing new being implemented on the site.
Well some of those are people wishing for things that are a continual effort and can't be closed. How could they close things like "Increase Win7 compatibility" and "continue to add good OLD games"? The only condition for closing things like those is for GOG to quit doing them completely.
the games are already on plenty of digital distribution sites (Steam, GamersGate, several Indie Bundles, and Spiderweb's own website), so i don't need the games on GOG.

let GOG focus on games that AREN'T already available in half a dozen other places.
First (as already stated) the Wishlisting system is your friend :)

Secondly: Yeah it would be nice to see the spiderweb software games on gog. I played through Avadon: The Black fortress thanks to one of the Humble Bundles and enjoyed it loads. It does fit in quite well with the current selection of games on gog (the series in general). The only possibly issues could be

- Compatibility with Windows 7 (Thinking more about the REALLY older games in Spiderweb's back catalouge)
- How many would you add (Such as would Avernum I-3 be sold in a pack or would all games be sold as seperate?)

TheEnigmaticT: What we ask publishers for
Is there, or are you allowed to reveal, a specific trigger number for the wishlist that signals you profit enough to contact an indie developer (I'm not talking about the good old games where there's plenty a license trouble, but rather cases like Spiderweb or Basilisk Games, which are likely to join GOG the second you ask them with a next to distribution-ready product)?

There's no trigger number, no. It's more art than science. ;)

fclarkism: Dear GOG, I know you get a lot of game requests but...

LOL, the real irony here is that you gave one of the most specific answers in history in this topic here, and yet now it seems that it was also one of the most enigmatic ones.

Mind = blown :-)
