Feeling a bit confused and sad, there were 2 Atlantis games released here and only one of them has a separate a topic for it and its been dead since 5 days :\

i was hoping lot of people had bought the two games and were going to discuss the story, difficulty, artwork and mystery etc on the series and Atlantis :\
instead we have one topic where the game seems to crash for everyone and with no official reply ............
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/atlantis_the_lost_tales/game_crashes_when_talking_to_the_guards

im just singling out Atlantis cause i love anything about that place ,ever since i played Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis :D and all of the cryo's Atlantis series.......
.............. what went wrong ? why no one asks about a topic for the game? :\
No posts in this topic were marked as the solution yet. If you can help, add your reply
These games were so non-sensical that at least one of them had the puzzle solutions posted by their devs on release day.

With that said, they may be good games, but I'm not sure the puzzles actually are anything but random.

hehe true mate but there is certain joy in solving those hard puzzles without referring to any help, i like those atlantis games for that, the solutions are so intense
random puzzles you are damn right about that, in one of the Atlantis games you get stuck behind a door....to open it you have to solve a sudoku puzzle lol,but once you do it awesome artwork will calm you down :)
here is how it looks like

Personally, I loved Atlantis, one of the best games ever made for the 2600.

This. I've only played the first one, but it ended up with me uninstalling it in disgust, when it became clear to me that even the devs didn't know the logic behind the puzzles. It's truly a beautiful game, but... You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.
ya they really messed up the series with too many hard puzzles :X but the story and graphics is good. lol in one of the Atlantis game even using the game menu is like a puzzle :D i think its the third one

I've been lucky enough to be exposed to this game when I was still quite young, and inexperienced, game-wise. So no looking up solutions on the internet, and I hadn't played enough adventure games to know what was bad puzzle design and what wasn't. So I just kept at it until I succeeded. It felt like a magical puzzle box, where you just had to keep trying to find a way to slide away the next piece. Logic never was a part of it.

It was a great experience, but now I'm playing it again, after having played other adventure games to compare it with, I can see how people find it a terrible adventure game. I still love it though! The atmosphere and graphics are great; the world feels very magical.

You just have to look at it as a puzzle box, instead of as a point-and-click adventure :)

EDIT: wow, how did I end up in general discussion? Why is this even here? I though this post was in the Atlantis forum. Must have clicked one link too many :P Now it's a very random necro post, instead of an ongoing Atlantis discussion >_>

A game based around puzzles that can't do puzzles to save its life is going to be neglected.
I was going to make a snarky comment about liking the 2600 version, but I see I beat myself to the punch.

Any particular reason why this thread needed to be necroed?
I Agree!

As I said, I thought I still was in the Atlantis forum. In game-specific fora, it's a lot less weird to continue an old discussion. Sorry for the confusion.

No worries, I was just curious.

Why ... why would one make them so nonsensical? XD Was it too tough to program logical gameplay? (I'm wondering if there's an obscure article online discussing this.)

I recall a bunch of snarky reviewer comments at the time, you might have to do a bit of searching to find anything resembling a developer interview, though.
sigh , the games got buried already , the thread failed its purpose.....
