Don't know if someone already posted this here but Nintendo recently patented a technique for an illusion of 3D on 2D displays.

Basically they just patented head tracking which uses glasses or a headband etc. for detection. That's it. It should be noted that the idea has been around for ages, this video even showed a method to achieve this effect using the original Wii hardware as early as 2007.
It's great that (hopefully) someone's finally going to use this technique but mainly I'm frustrated that it got patented despite the fact that the exact same idea has been around for ages.
