You won't get a code, instead you'll receive an email on your Steam email saying that you someone sent you a gift and it ask you if you want to accept it. Atleast that's what happens when you try to send it to someone else, I don't know if you can actually gift it to yourself.

Zorder: If you buy it as a gift it will appear on your Steam inventory. You can then add the person you want to give it to her or you can send it by email.

Have you ever received a steam gift by email?
You get an email from steam saying that you have a gift.
Once you accept the gift, you get a choice to activate it on your account or add it to your gift inventory to gift on...

Ahh well no I haven't I just made the giveaways http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/1IpHK/ducati-world-championship here is the open one the other is in the GOG club for one hour so I buy it when the GA is done and send it then at least the sale is still on ;)

Not sure if the {email} is needed, but you could try that. Also, if you get the email, you can send it there, though it will add the receiver to your friends list.
I tried this before and it works. You don't need the email. All you need is the key.

gets way too complicated I just made sure the giveaways ended before the sale was over and then I send the gifts as mail to the winners seems the easiest solution I can always unfriend the winner

If you want to keep it simple, just use your email on the gift you buy from Steam. Then just give the link to the winner on SG. The key is inside the link that Steam gives you, but if you don't want to bother with all that, just copy the link and give that.
