Sabin_Stargem: That said, there were certain comics that I detested. First and foremost of them was...Cathy. Whenever I looked upon that strip, I could only scrunch up my eyebrows and wear an expression of disgust - which hasn't changed a bit as I grew older. Other comics like Doonesbury, Family Circus, and that cave-man comic also questionable.
Yeah, I forgot about that Cathy strip. And I never got Doonesbury. Cave man one (I think it was called BC) I occasionally got a chuckle from, but I wouldn't miss it (or am I thinking of Wizard of id). Family Circus is probably only funny to those with kids.

I never understood why that comic was popular either.
Am I missing the punchline or is this comic seriously trying to make humor out of some manner of recent event?

VABlitz: I don't read the newspaper or comics anymore, but I am surprised Archie and Andy Capp are still running. While great comics like Calvin & Hobbes and The Far Side ended way to early.
The reason Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side are great is because they did end early. If you really want to make something good you need to have a sense to end it after you run out of ideas.

As far as I can tell, it's just supposed to be "funny" situations.

Before you do, actually. Ending a project / narration / etc via a good, well executed final is so important.
