StingingVelvet: I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be Lara in many recognizable ways anyway... I doubt she is rich, royalty or maybe even British.
It's a total reboot, not a Tomb Raider Legend style pseudo-reboot.
From what I can tell from the article, this isn't so much a reboot as identity theft. They'll be using her name and giving it a similar type of situation and that's it.
From a design point of view, they're apparently not happy with Lara and are opting to change more or less all of it in one fell swoop. Not a smart idea. It may work out for them, but it's a really risky way of addressing an imaginary problem.
If you're going to make changes based upon narrative and telling a story, the proper way to solve it is to evolve the character, give her more back story to explain why she's doing the things she's doing. Considering that she's basically the royal sort, there's got to be backstory which explains all her lower class interests.
I have a feeling that it'll come back to bite them on the but. Just look at the backlash against that last Indiana Jones movie, and they didn't even touch the core character.
Personally, I'll be reserving judgment on whether or not to play it based upon how much fun it looks like. If it looks fun to play I'll likely buy it, although that's assuming it doesn't have serious stability or DRM trouble.
Virama: Bro, archaeologists ARE tomb raiders. Just "legit" ones. The problem is to be a tomb raider you need knowledge of stuff like *gasp* History! Excavating!
Not really, the two are definitely not synonyms, the former involves a lot of painstaking research and meticulous digging and the other involves sneaking in and out with whatever isn't bolted down before the authorities can intervene.
