There's a new sheriff in town, and he's after you...

Thief™ II: The Metal Age was the last game released by the legendary Looking Glass Studios. You can relive this instant classic now for merely $9.99!

The story picks up after the events of [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold" target="_blank]THIEF™ GOLD. The Metal Age has come to the City. The city has gone fully steampunk and steam-powered robots, cameras, and other cutting edge wonders have been introduced by the Mechanists, a faction raised from the ashes of the Hammerite religion. Although the Mechanists are a new cult, they are led by a former Order of the Hammer priest named Karras, and he is showing the usual Hammerite taste for labyrinthine plots. Not everyone loves the new religion, though, and the City’s people have created a small religious sect in opposition to the Mechanists. The Pagans are a nature-loving sect led by Viktoria, a wood nymph in human form. Their aim is to shun technology and live in harmony with the wild, chaotic natural world.

A third player has thrust himself into this tense situation: Gorman Truart, the new Sheriff. He is a corrupt plotter who oppresses the people, collects bribes, and exploits the weak, and he’s on the long list of people who are not fans of the master thief Garrett. All three factions have their own wants and needs, and it’s almost enough to make an honest thief want to give up the business. As usual, Garrett’s not really interested in playing the role of hero for the City, but despite his self-centered instincts, circumstances will propel him into the middle of this three-sided war. One thing is sure: if he’s going to save the City, they’re certainly going to pay for it.

Now with even more loot to steal, more clever gadgets, and more ways to play through each mission, levels range from 30 minute hits to lengthy heists with multiple objectives and solutions. Showcasing the incredible dynamic lighting and fantastic audio that made the first game a hit, but with better graphics and AI, Thief™ II is definitely an example of a sequel done correctly, with more of all the best elements of its predecessor.

Check out Thief™ II: The Metal Age, DRM-Free and Windows 7 compatible, for only $9.99!

discordiac: it actually is true :) We're the only place that sells Thief 2 (and it rocks!)

Roman5: This is what I love about GOG! Exclusive Games that aren't available anywhere else online!

Also: Are you new around here? Since you joined in January, this is the first time I've seen you post, did you already introduce yourself? :)
Hi, Yes and Yes and sorry it took me 19 hours to reply but I'm learning my ways around here ;)

Also, my respect for GOG.com's way of working/selling/dealing with games and gamers was one of the key reasons I've joined the Church of DRM-free Revolution.

Also, since my boss may be reading, BUY Thief™ II !
Nice release GoG.

tfishell: You know, for getting some items off the "official" wishlist (these had thousands of votes), the response almost seems lukewarm, not like when EA came on board (or maybe that was just rage from everyone). Is it the price or the fact that most of these Squeenix games are available elsewhere? (Well, apparently Thief 2 isn't...)

bevinator: Well, we already got Thief 1 so it's not a great surprise that we got Thief 2 also. It's awesome, but we already did all of the "OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOREVER" shenanigans in the first thread. This is more like joyous contentment than soccer hooliganism.
Yup, you´re right. tfishell, just you wait and see how good this game will sell here.in a long run. People have been waiting for Thief to appear here, myself included. Not to mention the riot which would appear if System Shock 2 would land here, but I´m sure they would do some big announcement about that.

Yeah, I remember how Privateer 2 and Wing Commander 4 slipped by nearly unnoticed. Same thing here.
A must-buy; ditto for the first game.

Every gamer should have Thief 1 and 2 in his collection, this series has helped define what stealth gameplay is. I just hope Thief 4 will live up to these two, not to the third game.

Hey I liked the third game! But I'll be honest I haven't played either the 1st or 2nd. But the third was a decent game.

Well you said it yourself, decent. :p Not on par with the first two games.

The third person breaks the game for me, I just hope it will also be optional in Thief 4.

I found the game to be far more enjoyable with 2 mods. The first is the difficulty mod which lets you customize the AI (do you want them to not be deaf, or make them less blind?). The second, eh, I think it's called Minimalist Mod, though I really cannot remember who made it. Sad that it never got stickied on the TTLG forum, so people tended to overlook it. If you want to replay TDS, get these two mods.

And don´t forget John´s P. Hi-res textures upgrade for Thief 3 and Deus ex 2 - those games looks like nowadays releases with them :)

+1. I love his textures for Garrett especially. While Garrett will never be the caped rogue that we always see in trailers, John does a really good job of recreating LGS's Garrett as closely as possible.

Fred_DM: the wishlist only reflects peoples' desire to get every game onto GoG.com. it doesn't reflect their intention to actually buy the games, which makes the wishlist somewhat pointless.
Kinda like a Netflix cue, yeah? I hear you.

I also think it isn't a coincidence that GOG took off at the same time the world economy shat the bed -- gamers could feed their jonez by getting solid, functioning games (excluding Desperados, ahem) at bargain price-points.

IMO, the problem with the release of Thief is that it costs as much as Baldur's Gate for about 1/50th the amount of play time. I know, I know... apples to oranges, right? But I'm all about the value when I come to GOG, not the nostalgia of a game (well maybe a little), not its historical significance, not the cache of avatars and ephemera bundled with the .exes. Just a good game at a good price. For 12 bucks I can get Ultima Underworld 1+2 and Fallout, y'know? Atsa value!

Love the Thief series (still have a Thief 2 hardcopy on the shelf), and agree it's a *good* and important and unique (and temperamental) milestone in gaming and all... but it's also an *old* series, and one in a format (FPS) whose mechanics age less gracefully than other sorts of games. Once the Thief series' price falls to $6/ea or a $9 twofer or threefer, I'm on it like black on jack, but till then? Storming Severed Hand cheapskate-style, with an all-gnome party or something.
.

Just my two (jealously guarded) cents.
Not to seem as I do not care about the game series. I have the original game cd's. What would prompt me to purchase these gems once again would be a half price offer.

I just cannot see myself buying the games over again for $10 each. If you do NOT have them, then certainly a good deal to buy them. But as an owner of them already on disc. I'd pick them up for a half price week end offer.

Or any half price offer during the week. Although I'd not want to miss it so hopefully it would be a 2-3 day sale XD
I got introduced to Thief through Deadly Shadows, which I love. I'm glad the other ones are here now.

I may not normally make an "I'm so happy!" post about every game I like, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy. When I see something I like, I wishlist it. I have every intention of buying every game on my list. But a little thing called "life" tends to get in the way, so I personally think the wishlist is a great way to keep me from forgetting about games I want to get when I actually have some money that can be spent on what I want as opposed to what I have to pay (you know, rent, utilities, car payment, student loans, all the fun stuff). :-)
