Continuing the saga of Police Quest comes SWAT 3, the squad-based tactical first person shooter.

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/swat_3_tactical_game_of_the_year_edition]SWAT 3 Tactical Game of The Year Edition is the first installment in the series that completely dropped the Police Quest name, bringing in SWAT founder Daryl F. Gates as primary consultant to ensure that SWAT 3 would be a realistic tactical simulation. The game’s goal was simple, but ambitious: resemble real life tactics and drills as closely as possible.

This game has players use the same equipment available to police officers, including flashbangs, lightsticks, breaching charges and the “opti-wand”—a nifty little camera on a telescopic wand that is the successor to the mirror-on-a-stick. As the leader of a 5-man SWAT team you’ll have to intervene in a lot of different scenarios from regular day to day police activities, like serving search warrants or apprehending a suspect, but as the story progresses you'll find yourself performing higher-stakes operations such as securing an United Nations conference in LA. Be ready to train in SWAT drills like proper room clearance procedures, arresting enemies, and patrolling your fire zones. Pay attention to the RoE so that you never have to wonder if that terrorist you just shot was an authorized or unauthorized use of lethal force.

SWAT 3 isn’t a game about trigger-happy bunch of cops. It emphasizes the life-saving role of the Strategic Weapons and Assault Team. It’s more of an “Arrest them all!” than a “Kill them all!” style of game.

Tactical GOTY Edition includes: 27 missions, new modifications, and an Advanced Tactics CD containing previously unreleased video footage. SWAT3: TGOTY was developed hand-in-hand with the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT unit. This superior edition also has an official mission editor for modders delight ;)
That he did. Just knock out unins000.dat and you'll be A-OK.
I usually like to wait for sales, but not this time. I loved this game back in the day, hopefully it holds up!
HELL. YES.
I have the GOTY CD,but will buy this as a backup.
Great game. Probably the most realisitc FPS ever done ..even Rainbow SIx made some compromises to create some Holllywood style shoot em up excitement but not SWAT 3.It is as close to be a member of a real life SWAT team as you are going to get. SOme might find the "you lose if a innocent hostage is killed" rule frustrating (and a hostage can be killed not just because you are too trigger happy, but because you are too slow or use the wrong tactics) but then this game is probably not your kind of FPS.
SWAT 4 was fun and has more modern graphics, but did not have the gut churning realism of SwAT 3.

But back it up first. If you want to uninstall the game you need the .dat file.
Anyway, GOG annonced it will be fixing this in a new Installer so it won't be an issue for long.
Just be aware that the internet menu choices you see in the game are useless, since SWAT 3, like many games of the late 90's chose to use a specific Gaming Network for Multiplayer, Problem is the WON, which was a biggie back in the late 90's, has gone belly up since. But there are programs that allow games with defunct networks to functiion on other Networks. ANd SWAT 3 does have a quite active multiplayer community.

I loved Swat 3 and ghost recon especially playing on a LAN.
Has anyone been able to play this using Hamachi? I would easily purchase this game all over again (not sure where my copy is at the moment) if I could play it on a LAN with some friends.

I'd use Tunngle, it supports SWAT 3. Especially since Firek and Co. figured out our version issue.
I bought this game when it came out. I then got a second copy free as a preorder bonus to Swat 4. I wish the online MP worked for this game still. Paint ball TDM was a blast.

That doesn't make any sense but ok.. whatever you say.
My favorite thing to do was to adjust the settings, arm myself with a bunch of cs gas grenades and an M-16, then take down 29 armed and dangerous criminals piling out of an Arab antique store.

Lone wolf mode is best with single silenced pistol.
Man, do I ever miss quality tactical experiences like this one. They quite literally do not make games like this anymore. Those Vegas games have no right to have Rainbow Six anywhere in their titles.

I haven't often done that on purpose, but some of the most intense solo action I've ever experienced in a FPS has been in the SWAT games on occasions when the rest of my team has been taken out, and I'm trying to finish the level on my own.

Usually that results in failure, but I have one vivid memory of a co-op SWAT 4 game where everything went pear-shaped about a third of the way in, and I somehow got through the remainder on my own with just my baton launcher and stun gun (my absolute favourite non-lethal combination in that game). I think I may even have taken down the final bad guy with my very last stun round (if not, it was damned close).

The other players watched it all play out on their screens, and I think they found it almost as intense :)

Shadowcat: Fantastic release. SWAT 3 is one of my all-time favourites!

For the person who was asking, it is not only an incredible co-op game, but for smaller numbers of players (especially 2-3) it easily succeeds in a crucial area where SWAT 4 tragically failed, by filling out your squad with friendly AI, and allowing you to jump into the body of a surviving AI squad-mate should you be killed.

SWAT 4's co-op mode requires one player per squad member, meaning that trying to play co-op missions with only two players is usually just an exercise in futility and extreme frustration.

I do love SWAT 4 -- in most respects it's a thing of beauty, and had it included that feature it would have been close to a perfect game as far as I was concerned -- but because it dropped that particular ball, SWAT 3 is still the king of co-op in this domain.

If multiplayer is working, then I can't recommend this highly enough.
Many thanks for this reply. It was very helpful.

I will be downloading it once I get a couple of friends on board to give it a run.

Why are you trying to discourage people from interacting with other people with similar interests. That's what doesn't make any sense.
