I'm very tolerant if it comes to games & usually try to see something nice in even the worst (I even got myself liking enough aspects of Orion3 to occasional fire it up) but M&M9...? I'm very seriously surprised it has so many (more than one) people liking it. oO

wvpr: 3DO was ruined already. It took down M&M on the way out.

GingerGiant: THIS. Good god. 3DO was having financial problems before even the release of M&M 8. 9 was nothing more than a casualty of them hemorrhaging money for several years and subsequently releasing the title as a last ditch effort to slap a band-aid over a gushing artery.
Sure, because the whole 3D thing was a bad idea. I mean, the games were good on their own, but reviews didn't like them.

Uh, no. It was a hell of a lot more complex than just that one issue, ranging across a host of failed spin-offs and dying franchises (Army Men, anyone?). While reviewers didn't react well to the graphics in any of the latter three it wasn't that it was a bad idea, it was that it was executed comparatively poorly, with 7 and 8 managing to look rougher than 6 in many ways, and 9, as has already been mentioned, shunted out well in advance of when it should have been (not that having extra time would've done anything for a deliberate graphical choice other than perhaps to round out a lot of the obvious edges, or the choice of engine that they utilized).
