grviper: GSC'd or GOG'd version of the painting isn't quite up to the original. Just look at them faces. Especially the ones that got left out of the frame.

The guy twirling his moustache behind the guy with a pot-shaped hat on the head looks a bit like a Blackadder relative.

Dreadz: The painting and especially the story behind it is indeed epic, in the truest sense of the word.
For anyone who doesn't already know, and doesn't feel like Googling it, what's going on here is an exchange of letters between the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and the Cossacks. In particular:

As the Sultan; son of Muhammad; brother of the Sun and Moon; grandson and viceroy of God; ruler of the kingdoms of Macedonia, Babylon, Jerusalem, Upper and Lower Egypt; emperor of emperors; sovereign of sovereigns; extraordinary knight, never defeated; steadfast guardian of the tomb of Jesus Christ; trustee chosen by God himself; the hope and comfort of Muslims; confounder and great defender of Christians—I command you, the Zaporozhian Cossacks, to submit to me voluntarily and without any resistance, and to desist from troubling me with your attacks.

—Turkish Sultan Mehmed IV

Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

Thou art a turkish imp, the damned devil's brother and friend, and a secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight art thou that cannot slay a hedgehog with your naked ass? The devil shits, and your army eats. Thou son of a bitch wilt not ever make subjects of Christian sons; we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.

Thou art the Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, Armenian pig, Podolian villain, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, a fool before our God, a grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw thine own mother!

So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. Thou wilt not even be herding Christian pigs. Now we shall conclude, for we don't know the date and don't have a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year in the book, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our ass!

Koshovyi Otaman Ivan Sirko, with the whole Zaporozhian Host.

grviper: Soulbringer, Cossacks... GOG's in the "catching up with DotEmu" phase.
Yet overall GOG has a bigger and better library of games.

Maybe one of these days I'll get Flatout 2 from DE, since GOG still hasn't gotten it for whatever strange reason. One thing DE could do with is an overhaul of their website. Navigating that thing tends to be pretty awkward.

I knew this would eventually show up on GOG. GOG is a Polish company, and the Poles in this game have one of the real kickass armies. Polish Winged Hussars rule!
Just bought it. I have the dotemu version but like the totally DRM free GOG versions.
Great Game..and one of the few Computer games that deal with the 17th century Musket and PIke era of warfare.
If you want couple of good films on what this perior of warfare was like the Polish Miniseries "WIth Fire and Sword" and "The Deluge" have some really great battle scenes.
"Cromwell" has a couple of great battle scenes, although the history is weak.
"Taras Bulba" has a great performance by Yul Brynner as the Cossack Chief, but the battles are a little too "Hollywood" for my taste. And the armor for the Poles is ridiculous.
In the credits for Taras Bulba, though, they use as background the Repin painting that wa sused for the cover of the orignal box for the first Cossack game.

I hope that Divided Nation shows up here soon. It is almost unavaiable even on the used game market and takes the system to the American Civil War,which is having it's 150th anniversary .
And,speaking of the Civil War, how about the Sid Meier Civil War Games, "Gettysburg :
and "Antietam".I suspect that GOG could get them since they are EA/Firaxis games just like "Alpha Centauri".
People expect STALKER,I hope VENOM(Codename Outbreak) come in.
Get over here, Stalker! I think I'm on the verge of rebuying the Stalker games. :D

These are great games though. But I know that because I grabbed them on DotEmu while they were super cheap. Recommended to historical RTS fans.
Very nice. I have always been intrigued by this series but haven't ever tried it.

Regarding the background image: I read a little bit about its origin, but I thought, initially, it was from the last GOG holiday party :P
I loved these games. If I didn't already have the full retail copies I'd buy it. Heck I still might when it's on sale, just to have them in a convenient installer. I've kind of been itching to mow down massive armies with my artilery again..
Dear GoG, would you kindly let me buy S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for the third time?
I too would purchase S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC if it was added to GoG.
Jackpot! Nice price and extras. A long time played this RTS franchise demos. Sadly I never had a chance to buy them, in correct order especially.
I loved this RTS. So realistic. I mean the canons don't move selfs, the soldier don't start destroy an enemy building with thier musketeer or pikes. And has a better animation when thw workers chop trees.
Cossacks is a very interesting RTS that however would probably be most fun in a coop game against the CPU. So maybe someone wants to organise some multiplayer action?
which version of the game is it?1.35??
