Today's release is a game that needs no introduction. From the RPG series that defined the entire genre, we present to you Baldur's Gate, complete with the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion!

Those of you who already know this game are probably downloading it already, or at least checking out its [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/baldurs_gate_the_original_saga/]product page. The few of you that don't are probably wondering what all the fuss is about. Where should we start? Baldur's Gate uses the famous AD&D ruleset, with a few necessary tweaks, since combat takes place in real-time, with an active pause feature. It's set in probably the most famous D&D setting of all - the Forgotten Realms. The story is just enthralling and will keep you entertained for weeks, or even months if you take it slow and wish to do everything perfectly. Most importantly, though... It's Baldur's Gate! Over two million gamers can't possibly be wrong!

Where Minsc goes, Evil stands aside!
My only reservation about BG being offered here, is that I can't imagine playing it without the addon (Tales of the Sword Coast)... but I'm assuming that if I install that over the gog-bgate, I'll still have to have the CD, true?? So there's no point in downloading the game until ToSC is available as well. (I still have all the CDs for BG1 and BG2, but wouldn't mind not needing the CDs anymore).

Any chance of that happening imminently??
Definitely getting this title when I have a little bit of extra cash.
i want ice wind dale series pls!!!

Uh, what are you blubbering about? This is "The Original Saga" which includes the expansion.

Don't teach my hamster to suck eggs!
The add-on is included, no worries there.
All them Infinity Engine games own - so, that includes BG series; Planescape: Torment; and Icewind Dale series.

BG1 was great - must-play RPG stuff.
Never played Tales, for some reason...

BG2: Shadows of Amn is one of the best RPG's ever made, if you ask me.
@ derelict, this is "Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga", which is a bundled release of both the original base game AND the expansion pack "Tales of the Sword Coast". The expansion you love is included. Cool, huh? :D

And from the DL page (take note of the first point):

What's cool about it:

* Includes the original Baldur's Gate and its expansion Tales of the Sword Coast
* Explore the famous Forgotten Realms universe and meet some of its most renowned characters
* Create your own unique hero thanks to the legendary AD&D ruleset

Now I look forward to them adding BGII: SOA and TOB to the list. I JUST purchased BGII and TOB again on disk, but would certainly pay to not have to have the CD as well. I just hope that they are compatible with the various available mods, INCLUDING Tutu.
Wow, the timing on this release could not have been better for me! I went to Amazon last week and placed the 4-pack of Baldurs Gate 1 + 2 plus expansions in my cart, and also Icewind Dale I + 2 plus expansions, but did not actually buy any of them (they're still sitting there). I just couldn't quite make myself repurchase these oldies on DVD, and now I'm so glad I waited! Now I just hope GOG comes through with BG2, IW1 and IW2... although their teaser email says there are only going to be 6 more titles coming. That's half of them right there! Add in Torment, and that still leaves only two "slots" open.

Wonder what they'll be? What did Bioware do after Torment that would be GOG-worthy?

I see people complaining about the PR stunt but it worked. I only ever used this site once and then forgot about it, but after the PR stunt I came back here and purchased more (including BG right here).
People overreacted. They said they'd be back in some form, so yeah, they didn't say they died. They kept assuring they hadn't died so I don't see the problem with some people. :|

Ya, I did not read very carefully, and "Original Saga" didn't mean anything to me.
It *sure* is nice being able to play the whole thing without worrying about CDs anymore! And being able to just run the setup program and walk away for a half hour or so, was *really* cool!!!

Maybe if you reduced the +200% night-vision glow in your eyes you'd be able to read a bit better... :P
