One of the greatest and most addictive games of its kind, Age of Wonders 2 is a fine addition to our ever-expanding lineup of classics.

Age of Wonders 2: The Wizard's Throne is a turn-based, fantasy-themed strategy game and the direct sequel to the original Age of Wonders. While some die-hard gamers decided to stay loyal to the original, most fans of the series were lured, and rightly so, by the improved audio and visuals, more quests, more options, and the two large single-player campaigns available in the sequel. One great thing about Age of Wonders 2 is that it's absolutely immortal. The game's community is still very active and has spawned lot of additional content like mods and scenarios, with many more still being in development. Furthermore, Play By E-Mail ladders are still up and running! Only a game of impeccable design could have weathered the test of time so well.

Khalaq: *sigh*

On the one hand, it's good to finally have AoW2 available on GOG.com. On the other hand, we've already had three competitors release the trilogy for $20. I'm guessing the publisher was pushing the $10 price-point for AoW2? If Shadow Magic comes out at $10, too, then GOG.com will have the most expensive version of the three games, and that would suck.
GoG at least has one advantage over other services such as Steam - DRM free. Since I don't spend much time (unless I want to reboot) in Windows these days, for me it makes the GOG version of Age of Wonders a little simpler to handle. I can emulate it without having to also emulate/run Steam, et cetera).

Add to that any doomsday fears about service x, y, or z being out of business someday, and that can't hurt.

Coelocanth: Not my cup of tea, but I'm actually grateful for that. I still have to complete IWD, Planescape:Torment, and ToEE. (Waiting for the release of BG2 so I can do a run of BG1 and 2 with mods). So this gives me more time to complete the other D&D games before more show up.
That's exactly what I'm doing, but with Planescape and Icewind Dale. And I'm pretty sure I'll not have finished the games before the release of BG2. That's fine by me. These are not games I want to rush through. Keep those Infinity Engine masterpieces coming and I'll keep on getting them.
People here probably said this already, but...

It wasn't very wise to hold the two remaining games from the AoW series, really, when almost every other DD store had all the three titles by the same week. (since every store got it, I really doubt that GOG's build, version is different from the others...).

And how the other stores had the soundtracks and bonuses already, but GOG hadn't? That's strange. As I said, not a wise move; lots of people already bought the three from somewhere else.
Can't wait for BG2 :(

That was my point too. When GOG first started, they made a big deal about having only two price points for the games, in US $ it's either 5.99 or 9.99. IMHO there really needs to be a newer price point, for US customers it would be $19.99, for "bundles", of which the AoW trilogy is a classic example. My suspicion is it was GOG's hangup about the two lower price points that caused it to hold back on the trilogy release when the competitors blew them out as a $20 bundle. The exact same thing happened a little while back with the Sierra KQ and SQ titles, GOG was beaten to the punch because they won't do the $20 bundle deal and others did.

But GOG re-launched without adding new price points, so I guess they won't change this so soon.

They could have the three AoW titles for $5.99 each. When comparing $18 at GOG vs. $20 at others, I suspect most people would buy it here instantly, the home of the old games... that's if, if the three were released by the same week.

Who knows... if they did waited to check what prices the other stores would use, or whatever. In the end, lost sales for GOG.
Too little too late. Already snagged AoW:Shadow Magic off Gamersgate DRM-free.

If you're going to wait for gog to finally stop sitting on Shadow Magic, be sure to grab the unofficial 1.4 patch from Age of Wonders 2 heaven once gog releases it sometime in November. Maybe.
