Hi
I just signed up to GOG for the purpose of playing Lords of the Realm2 and its expansion pack. How many times have i tried downloading garbage that just doesn't work, then i found it on GOG, thought these guys look legit and now i have the game working, finally, hooray, thank you GOG!!!

I wonder if GOG can help me with another problem? Alpha Centauri alian crossfire expansion? You guys don't seem to have it??? This is another one of those phantoms that i simply cannot find?

Unfortunately the GOG version only includes the vanilla game.
Licensing issues with the expansion apparently.
There is hope that we might see it added to the game some day, but for now there isn't little that you can do besides voting on the wishlist:

e: oh and as for acquiring it from elsewhere, just go ahead. It worked fine for me on Win 7 64bit so you shouldn't really have any issues running it on a modern machine.

GOG doesn't have the rights to sell Alien Crossfire. Many people have complained about this since Alpha Centauri was released over a year ago and GOG has stated that they're trying to get the expansion, but so far the situation remains unchanged.

I'll go a little off-topic and ask - Have you ever played Sacrifice? It's one of the best games ever made, and costs just 5.99$ here on GOG.

I want to see how many times I have to do this before Licurg hunts me down and murders me.

On topic though, I would love to see Alien Crossfire here. Though at least it's not too expensive on Amazon.

From what I can gather they f'cked up the licensing deal on their end. Probably didn't invest in a proper law firm. Well, that's what you get for being cheap on lawyers.

And where is that drunk thread!

Thanks for the reply

I have the original game on disk, and it runs just fine in windows vista 64 bit - although i think the game file is a transfer, not an install... i vaguely remember some years ago i had to add a crack to kill the infamous CPU test thingy! Anyway, SMAC as old as it is, it is still better than any of the modern similar style games!!

Just needs a modern AI ????

I think I had slight issues when trying to get it to run initially, but nothing that five minutes of googling couldn't fix ;)
And cracking it is absolutely fine, that is in fact what GOG does with most games here to get rid of copy protection / disc checks.
Personally, SMAX was a let-down for me. I tried it for the first time last year or so after having played Civ 3 for around a decade and the latter is infinitely superior in my book.

You get what you pay for! Serves them right (and us wrong) for trying to cut down on legal fees.

I don't play civ3, it is just not needed in between smac or call to power (1 and 2) or civ2. But civ2 is just too different to compare to civ3 or smac, civ2 is a freak of nature, a pathetic simple childs game that traps people such as myself in its orbit and always manages to pull us back in sooner or later!
