It ends the same way, unfortunately. And I don't think it took me more than 20-25 hours to finish the game.

Barnell: Has anyone ever played NeverEnd? I found it on gamespot where it got poor reviews but as I did more research I found a few people that said it was a good game. I’m just looking for some insight on this game.

If anyone's interested, I've got a box copy of NeverEnd on 2CDs + manual with worldmap. Sadly, it's in Polish, but I guess there exists a EN patch or such.

Also have The Fall: Last Days of Gaia, a.k.a. Fallout 3 before Bethesda released the real thing.
