Hi
Anygame i try to run on my netbook will only display as a small screen in the center of my netbook screen.
I dont expect the games to be widescreen.
But WHY do they also have to have black borders on the top and bottom of my screen also?
This makes the actuall play area tiny.

How do I configure it to display as full screen, at least vertically ?

If this can't be done, I'll be requesting a refund for my game , and won't be buying anymore until they have some kind of netbook friendly setting.

I have the same problem with scummvm games also, even with the options toggled.
no joy.

please halp
thanks

What kind of graphics chipset does it have? I'd guess probably Intel, in which case you might find the option if you right click on the desktop.

If there's a section of the right click menu called Graphics Options go into it.
If there's a menu in there called 'panel fit' you're in luck. Go into it and select 'Maintain Aspect Ratio'.

EDIT: If you can't get the games displaying full screen, it's not really grounds for a refund as it's not a problem with the games but a problem with your netbook. It would be a case of 'your netbook not being game friendly' rather than 'the games not being netbook friendly'.

Technically speaking, the black border should be considered more correct anyway, as it's displaying native resolution. Also, the fact that there is a border has nothing to do with you playing on a netbook, it's simply a symptom of playing on a display with a higher native resolution.

I can play almost everything I bought on GOG (including NWN) on an Asus T101MT with a small widescreen monitor and low native resolution support using exactly the fix SirPrimalForm suggested, although IIRC I also had to set it to fit the image to the screen size or some such nonsense.

edit: Oh, and he's also right - I understand your frustration, and GOG reps might be nice enough to refund a single game that way, but it's a computer problem, not a game problem or packaging problem. There is a thread you can search for that mentions games that run on netbooks, if you're interested - that might help you pick some good stuff that you can know ahead of time should run.

Netbook displays tend to have "non-standard" resolutions.

Most of the games on here are older and may not have the ability to adapt to netbook resolutions. In fact, many newer games aren't that good at adapting either.

There are two things you can do about this.

1. Adjust the settings for you netbook graphics. Most can be changed so that they "stretch" the screen to fill the full display. This does not really use the extra resolution but does get rid of the black border - you just get a "fatter" image. You may need to download utilities specific to your type of netbook (or, more accurately, the graphics chip in it).

2. Many of the games on here have "hi-res", or "HD" or "Widescreen" MOD's that can be downloaded from other sites and installed that often allow you to play in netbook resolutions. Have a look at the stickies at the top of the specifc games forum. If they work then this is the best option as you will fully use the available resolution.

I have to point out tho, there are a lot of games which simply wont work at netbook resolutions - so a black border is the least of your worries. You really need to do a bit of research before you buy.
The option to maintain aspect ratio is not on the desktop menu's graphic options on my netbook, but can be found in the intel GMA system tray.

EDIT: was in respons to this:

Yes you're right. This was exactly the next thing I was going to suggest if there was no desktop menu. =D
you Beauty !
worked like a charm:
''If there's a section of the right click menu called Graphics Options go into it.
