I just tested a few games on my netbook (Acer Aspire ONE D260 Intel Atom N450 1 GB RAM Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit).

Alien Shooter + Expansions - runs perfectly
Alien Shooter 2 reloaded - will not launch
Tropico Reloaded - for Tropico 1 you'll need to use a program like POwerISO to mount a virtual CD-ROM in order to launch the game and it will run perfectly. Tropico 2 runs fine without the need to launch PowerISO.
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - you'll have to edit the Alpha Centauri.ini file and add Video Mode=800 under the [Alpha Centauri] and [PREFERENCES] sections and the game will launch and run well. YMMV but it worked for me.

captfitz: excellent, busy with school and work.
check out this crazy coincidence: ten minutes ago i'm reading an article about Day Z on pcgamer and the author talks about playing with his friend keenan. so i checked steam to see if Vag was on, and i asked if that was him (it was). i ask him what he's doing right now and he says he's doing some testing for GOG so we start talking about the good ol' days and it made me wanna check out the forum. happened to be the exact minute that you posted in this thread.
can't believe you remembered this old thread
It's been added to the community compilation thread that's stickied at the top. Since I have a better chance to test some of these games out I figure I would add my voice to it to help others with netbooks out in their choice of games. :D
Just tested Psychonauts on my netbook.

At first the game wouldn't even launch until I set the compatibility to Windows Xp SP 3, disabled visual themes, and disabled desktop composition under the Compatibility tab in the Properties of the executable. Setting the game to a 640 x 480 screen resolution, turning off all the special effects (shadows, graphic acceleration etc.) gives you a decent frame rate but the game will still suffer some sync hitches where you'll hear speech fine but the character talking will continue to animate eveb after the spoken part is finished.

I played through a couple levels up to Sasha Nein's mind and so far I haven't had any problems getting through them.
Zeus/Poseidon: long initial loading time (i.e. before you get to the title menu) but once you are in the game it runs very smoothly with no drop in frame rate. No interface squishing of any kind either.

Leroux: Actually I had that problem even on my desktop PC. I was able to resolve it somehow, but sadly I don't quite remember how exactly. Maybe I just experimented with the resolution and other settings? I remember something about finding a middle way, that is, strangely enough the best performance wasn't on the lowest settings, I think. But I could be completely wrong, too, and you probably know a lot more about these things than I do, so maybe it's just that fortune favors fools. ;)
Well, I have noticed the sync problem goes away somewhat on the lowest resolution (640 x 480). It doesn't go away completely but it occurs a lot less. I have ran the game on higher resolution settings and the problem worsened so on my configuration I will chalk it up to a lack of decent hardware. I can't complain since I can actually play the game on my netbook without any gameplay hindering issues.

Taterlicker: Hi could anyone please let me know if wing commanders iii and iv will work on an acer 1.66 qhz 1gb netbook? Thanks in advance
They should work but the question is will they work as intended? The reason I say that is that those games are played via DOSBox and that sometimes adds to the requirements as you're emulating an entire operating system on top of playing a game.
