So, I need a laptop and here's what I've just been suggested by my usual retailer:

I5 3230M
4 Gb DDR3
HDD 500 Gb
17.3 screen
GeForce 710M

... for 660€ / 885$. Is it worth its price?

It's a shit video card. Does he know you play games?
Hell no.

Are computers / laptops normally this overpriced in France?

Slow CPU, Small RAM, very standard HD, decent Screen Size, crap video.

You should be able to get a i7 8gb Ram, better video card, bigger HD, and same screen size for that price.
Well, I don't plan to play recent games on it. (no Witcher 3). Trouble is, where I live, most retailers have closed down last year.
What about Amazon.co.fr ? I imagine they would have a decent selection.

And that's why they'll take advantage of you. They never learn.

Ça c'est bien, mais c'est sans OS.

Il y a ça aussi.

According to notebookcheck it is a pretty poor graphics card. A haswell based i7 would likely outperform it in both games and battery life, and because it is the CPU integrated graphics adapter, may actually be cheaper than buying a laptop with a dedicated card.

With the 4th gen of intel cpus, the integrated graphics improved quite a bit. My laptop is an i7-4700MQ with the HD4600 graphics. It also has an GTX765M, but I find with the performance of the HD4600, especially for older games, I often just use the HD4600.
Dang, there are days where I deserve to be whipped... I've already paid 20% of the price only to realize now that I made a big mistake...

i7 CPUs for laptops appear to be unusual and rather overpriced in France. I see mostly i3 and i5.

I don't know what France prices are like for computer hardware, but if it's super expensive, another alternative would be to get laptop with AMD APU, if you're into gaming.

The integrated graphics are much better than anything Intel has, and it's a lot cheaper. Anything with an A-8/A-10 processor should suit you fine. I have a 1st gen APU laptop, and it runs most things on GOG fine.

Here's one review of the latest batch of mobile APUs: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8119/amd-launches-mobile-kaveri-apus

But if you do a lot of productivity-oriented tasks (Photoshop, video encoding, etc), it'd be better to have an Intel CPU.

Thank you for all the input!

Work-wise, there shouldn't be anything particularly intensive. I would play games, but nothing particularly fancy (if it runs The Witcher 2 / Two Worlds 2, great, but it's not a prerequisite)

Re-Edit all right, I was able to transfer the order and get something with better CPU / graphics card / HDD, and the screen may also be of a better quality.

As a way to thank you, any of you up for a Realms of Arkania 1+2 code ? :)
