Ubivis: This is just half true.

Dead Island was banned (On "Liste B") until January of this year, it was taken into List A (not banned, but not allowed advertised or sold to people under 18) on 31 January, 2012.
No. "List B" is not banned. The BPjM has and ist not the authority to ban a game, movie or music.
"Liste B" means, that the BPjM means, that this medium should be banned. In this cases they inform a regular court. If the court declined to ban the medium, the BPjM takes this into "List A". Dead Island was never banned in Germany.

macuahuitlgog: I tried to activate Dead Island on Steam with the key and Steam wouldn't let me. I get a message saying "Sorry, but the following items are not available for purchase in this country, your purchase has been cancelled" RAARRRGHHRGHH! I didn't purchase it!!! Someone gifted it to me. I'm going to see if I can activate it through the Gamersgate setup now. If that doesn't work, going to contact Gamersgate support and Steam support.
Did you bought it at gamersgate or someone gifted you a key from an unknown source?

The game was gifted to me and the source was gamersgate.co.uk. :)

Tizzysawr: Its better if you wait until the Steam Summer Sale anyway. That way you get the steam copy directly and don't have to worry that maybe the cdkey won't activate in germany.

I can't help right now with that because I haven't been paid as of yet :(
The game is unavailable from a german Steam account and the german steam store.

Strange. I bought the Game from Gamersgate.com three days ago. I was able to redeem the code without any problems. Steam shows, that I have registered "Dead Island (Western Europe)" for my account.

Well my Dead Island is from gamersgate.co.uk and not gamersgate.com so maybe that is why I am having problems? My Dead Island better not be locked to the UK, that would suck very much indeed.

I have the same version, I asked Gamersgate for a refund, they told me to deal with Steam. I contacted Steam Support and they did not care at all, as I wrote that I want either a refund or have to use VPN to activate the key, I have decided to activate it with a UK IP :)

That means people in Germany can't buy it. Doesn't mean they can't receive it as a gift ;)

That sucks... And it pisses me off that Gamersgate and Steam treats customers like sh*t when customers simply want to get what they paid for instead of useless Steam keys... I will definitely think twice from now on, before giving both Gamersgate and Steam my money. $16 down the toilet for someone who doesn't have so much money...

*ahem* You violated Gamersgates TOS by buying the game and it was made very clear by Steam that the game isn't available to German audiences. You took a gamble in buying the game (which you can still play out by using a VPN) and now you are pissed?

Neither GG nor Steam are legally allowed to sell the game in Germany (not because of German laws, but because it simply isn't published there).

If you blame anybody, blame the publishers. From a legal point of view, the game could be sold in Germany. It is the publishers that have fscked this up.

I was gifted the game but yes, my rage from what happened to Ubivis and other customers should be directed at the publishers, you are right about that, not at Steam and Gamersgate. Yes, it was made very clear this game is not available for me to purchase in Germany. But because I didn't buy the game, I expect Gamersgate or Steam to fix my problem. If not, my rage will be towards them.

Yeah there is always the classifieds section here, worst case scenario but really want to play Dead Island. Unfortunately, I don't know much about VPN.

Maybe a silly question. I bought the game from Gamersgate, what part of the TOS did I violate? I did not hide my I IP or origin, I even paid from my german bank account.
