Also, make sure you buy Sacrifice and play that, you surely missed it, and it's a damn shame you did. It's one of the best games ever made .

Ixamyakxim: I think you guys are on the wrong track thinking RTS - "you can stack these" sounds more like a tile and turn based wargame. I don't remember too many, but one that does have monsters rather than tanks and soldiers was Fantasy General (they didn't RTS that one did they?). Another might be Battles in Time.
it its deffinently more along those lines, especially fantasy general looks like the game im thinking of in terms of graphics and the "stacking of units" but it was a squared tiles if i remember correctly

it isen't dominus although it looks like a really cool game!!, and i will have to check out sacrifice then thanks a lot!

I know I played Warlords II on my Macintosh Performa in the mid-to-late 90's. It did exist for DOS as well, so might not be the one you're thinking of if it's true what you say that it was "only for mac".
