All right, I have no idea how the hell to convert a video into a format where the audio isn't either messed up or the video cuts itself to pieces before loading. I want to place 3 videos in WMV format (Blue Harvest and It's a Trap!, since I have digital copies, and Punisher 2.) onto my PS3 but none of my recent attempts of making these videos into a PS3 format have worked. Can someone please help me? There's 5 rep points for the one who's solution works. ;)

Just run this on your computer: http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

The PS3 supports UPnP and DLNA (which is UPnP with encryption added in), keep the files on your comp, and this program does some modest, real time encoding. Voila, movies across your home network. Now you don't have to worry about BS encoding issues with your PS3!

Incidentally, the above program works fine with an XBox 360, regardless of its name.

So, it streams video? I don't have a home connection.
As long as you have a network you should be able to run that, the PS3 will detect it and build a list of whatever media you're sharing. Pretty sure you can do the same with media player 10 & above as well

Again, no network. =/ My mother has yet to understand the whole concept of 'I need Internet for school work and other various moments of life.'

Do you have a home network? You don't need internet other than to download this program. Essentially DLNA is a protocol to stream the individual frames and bits of audio across your home network. It's how I get around the miserable crap on my XBox 360 as far as getting video on and off, there's no need, and no need to encode especially for it as the ps3mediaserver software does it in real time (it supports pause, fast forward, and rewind, but not much else).

I'm not familiar with the PS3 dashboard but there should be an area where you can look for music and movies on your home network. You may have to start ps3media server and then tell it to "search" for movies and music. It should come up with the computer running the software. You have to manually add folders you want shared but the interface couldn't be easier.

Actually, no not sure.
Well you have a computer that can connect to the net, does it do that wirelessly or through a cable to your modem?

Wireless. this stuff confuses me.
Wireless is good, your PS3 has wireless built in.

Have a look at this video and follow through on your PS3. Obviously you'll have to find your network's SSID (basically the name of the network) and if it has security you'd have to get the password for it but this is basically how you set it up

Edit: And when I say this video, I mean THIS video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC7aPylbI3M

Find an archive that has Handbrake 0.9.3 (The presets won't work with 9.4 or newer.)

Use these 2 presets based on the source audio (2.0 or 5.1 channel)

<Preset>
<Level>0</Level>
<Name>PS3 - Basic 2.0</Name>
<Query> -f mp4 --decomb -p --detelecine -e x264 -q 0.64 -a 1 -E faac -B 160 -R 48 -6 dpl2 -D 1 -U -F -x level=41:me=umh:ref=3:mixed-refs=1:bframes=6:direct=auto:weightb=1:b-pyramid=1:subq=9:analyse=all:8x8dct=1:tre llis=1:no-fast-pskip=1 -v </Query>
</Preset>

<Preset>
<Level>0</Level>
<Name>PS3 - Movie 5.1</Name>
<Query> -f mp4 --decomb -p --detelecine -e x264 -q 0.64 -a 1 -E faac -B 384 -R 48 -6 6ch -D 1 -U -F -x level=41:me=umh:ref=3:mixed-refs=1:bframes=6:direct=auto:weightb=1:b-pyramid=1:subq=9:analyse=all:8x8dct=1:tre llis=1:no-fast-pskip=1 -v </Query>
</Preset>

This is what I've used to rip nearly my whole DVD collection for playing through a PS3.

How do I find the source's current audio?
Actually, how do i use Handbrake?

Rohan15: How do I find the source's current audio?

If you have handbrake 0.9.3, after you load the source (file, directory, or DVD) about half way down the window is a number of tabs. One of them is labeled "Audio & subtitles" click on that tab and you should see a drop down box for the source audio which will tell you if it's 2 channel or 5.1.

Once you've figured that out, just click on the preset you want to use and pick a destination file name and click start at the top of the page.
