hedwards: Or if they had used a time machine to travel back to when such private networks were profitable. AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy and the like were doing quite well for a while. Although all of those are more or less out of business now.
Hmmm... the only good things about those places were i got free floppy disks in the mail i could relabel and format for personal use... This was back in 1990-1995 before CD's were in heavy use as a storage medium.

Maybe we need to backtrack and go back to dialup. There was so much less spam when it cost you long distance charges... You ever get that? A disk from AOL that says: TRY OUT AOL FREE FOR 8 HOURS! and of course it's a long distance number which cost more than the service to use...

Yes, but you'd be giving up easy access to high quality porn in the process.

king_mosiah: This is not the 90s any more, MS no longer has the clout it once did, and what's more, it no longer really cares about desktops let alone gaming on them. The MS of today is more about "the cloud", "services" and trying to get a foothold in mobile. As for being "user friendly", I recommend you look at the video rtcvb32 posted earlier in this thread.

monkeydelarge: If MS doesn't really care about desktops(and I'm guessing you were talking about laptops too) then why was Windows 8 unleashed upon this poor world?
I'm sorry, are you saying the desktop was the focus of WIndows 8?
